Help answer this question below.

Under US law you must be 18 to consent to have sex. In UK you must be 16 to consent, and can marry at 16. If I have sex with my 17 yr old wife while in America is this statutory rape?

    I'm assuming that this is a rhetorical question. In the states, it is not considered rape if you have consensual sex with your wife, regardless of her age. Unfortunately, some child abusers escape the consequences of the law by marrying their victims.

    Wrong; you don't have to be over 18 to consent to sex in most of the states. If she is your wife, no matter what the age of consent is, it is legal. However I would like to correct your misknowledge about USA.

    Your understanding of American law is inaccurate. First, the age of consent varies by state. The majority of states have an age of consent of 16. Second, most (if not all) states exempt married couples from the statutory rape laws.

    First, you start with an erroneous premise (i.e. under US law you must be 18 to consent to have sex). Every state has their own age of consent laws,and most states allow a person to consent to sex in some form at age 16.

    Second, even in states with an age of consent of 18, they almost always have an exception for married couples.

    No. Not if she is your wife. And who is going to report you? Will she?
    The age of consent varies from state to state, from 14 in some to 18 in others. In some states the age difference between the participants is the criterion for deciding whether a minor can legally "consent" to have sex.

    And marriage makes a girl legally an adult anyway, no matter her age.

    I am under the impression, that if you cross state lines (or further lol), to obtain sex from a minor, it turns into a federal offense, not just a sexual offense, as if you did it in a state you lived in. This is just my opinion based on information given from other legal sites.

    You are wrong.The age of consent in most of the US states is 16,not 18.By the way,you are married.Age of consent does not apply to married couples.
