  • At first I was going to say yes as I thought you meant macadamia as in the edible nut. Turns out it's a different thing: Macadam is a type of road construction pioneered by the Scotsman John Loudon McAdam in around 1820. It consisted of creating three layers of stones laid on a crowned subgrade with side ditches for drainage. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Macadam
  • I had never heard the word before, so that would be a no.
  • I would use it in scrabble if it went in. I will put in any word to get rid of my C's.
  • Used here in PA alot.
  • Occasionally, but not as often as tarmac (which is a short form of tarmacadam). And I have heard people say, "...a macadamized road." I've also heard people say "wittles" for victuals and "wydock" for viaduct.
