  • I can't tell you, this is my first life as a human!
  • Tough dude! really tough...
  • I'm guessing, very white
  • In my opinion... I think purgatory will be a very miserable place. Imagine that you still have your intellect and will, but your mind now has no body. This is the first pain -- a human mind separated from its body. Next, imagine that Christ is calling for you to join him, but because you now see with total clarity all of the disorder you caused in others' lives, all of the bad example, all of the particular instances when you shunned His mercy, all of the time when you abused your free will and the countless other gifts he had given you, all of the idle and mean speech, you know that you are not yet clean and that you still need to make expiation for every sin in your life in order to join Him on his terms. This is the second pain -- a pain of separation from Christ. Next, imagine experiencing pain worse than anything you could conceive of because you have willingly offended an infinite, all loving God that gave His life for you. This is the third pain -- a pain of purifying love that an infinite, merciful God has for you. Now multiply every pain I have written of a thousand times, and you might get some inkling of what Purgatory is like. The only consolation you have is the sure knowledge that you will be with Christ some day for all eternity. If you see any truth in what I have written, please say a prayer for a friend who has died who may be in purgatory. Pray an extra prayer for non-Catholic friends that died because they generally have nobody on earth to pray for them. For private revelations of purgatory, see "Purgatory" by Fr. F.X. Schouppe, S.J.

  • Purgatory is a happy and expectant place, kind of like the dressing room where a bride gets ready for her wedding. "But if someone's work is burned up, that one will suffer loss; the person will be saved, but only as through fire." (1 Corinthians 3:15) "So that the genuineness of your faith, more precious than gold that is perishable even though tested by fire, may prove to be for praise, glory, and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ." (1 Peter 1:7) But the souls of the just are in the hand of God, and no torment shall touch them. They seemed, in the view of the foolish, to be dead; and their passing away was thought an affliction and their going forth from us, utter destruction. But they are in peace. For if before men, indeed, they be punished, yet is their hope full of immortality; Chastised a little, they shall be greatly blessed, because God tried them and found them worthy of himself. As gold in the furnace, he proved them, and as sacrificial offerings he took them to himself. (Wisdom 3:1-6) Are you perfect now? Most people would say no. Will you be perfect in heaven? Most people believe yes. Purgatory (or purgation) is the process of God's love changing our imperfect selves on earth into perfect beings in heaven. Depending on the amount of change needed by different people, this can be an easy or slightly harder process. Everyone in purgatory is on his or her way to heaven. I do not think Mother Teresa of Calcutta had a very hard time of it. For more information, see the Catechism of the Catholic Church, section 1030: http://www.usccb.org/catechism/text/pt1sect2chpt3art12.htm#1030 + With love in Christ.
  • Oh you mean that thing the catholic church made up? I wouldn't worry about it, since is was created by man and not God, I doubt anyone will end up there.
