Why do some people only use pronouns and will not use a proper name for a relative? "Is she there, you know, the youngest, your daughter" etc. Even when pushed to identify who they are referring to, they use a nickname.

My dad generally never calls me by my name. I'm 'youngest child'. I don't know why he does it, but it's bloody irritating.
