  • take an empty milk container(1 gallon/plastic) hold it over the fire with a stick and once it starts to melt it sounds like mario is jumping.(the sound effect when mario jumps in the video game.)
  • get a wide roll of duct tape and some powdered potassium or other chemical that burns with a colored flame ... roll out a bunch of 6 inch strips of tape, sprinkle a bit of your fire coloring powder on it, then cover it with another strip of tape, sticking the powder between the two tape strips ... then just toss them in ... ... similarly, you can dissolve a mix of those powders in water, soak some newspapers with it, then roll the newspaper pages into a paper log, let it dry, then toss those in ... they will burn with a varying set of colored flames ...
  • Late in the evening when the fire has died down a bit and there's a good bed of coals, drop about 5 or 6 red highway flares on the fire. Don't tell anyone what you're going to do - drop a few sticks on with them to make people think it's just wood. In about 30 seconds they start burning noticeably, making that "shshshshsh" noise and giving off red light. Within a minute (if you had a good hot bed of coals) all of the flares are burning very vigorously and giving off an ***unbelievably*** bright red light. They don't explode or go "poof" or anything like that, so it's essentially safe...as safe as a camp fire is anyway. Just make sure you have some sunglasses ;)
