Help answer this question below.
I am proud of my ancestry. I know what it is. I know my "roots" back 900 years. If my "white" skin bothers anyone, I also have a white arse that anyone is welcome to kiss...(sarcastic grin).
Before I reply I will let you know that I am an Asian chick.
That being said, no there is definitely no shame in saying that you are proud to be white.
People SHOULD be proud of who they are.
There is a difference between being proud and being a supremist.
Knock yourself out, but you didn't really do anything to become white. You just are white. I don't think people should be proud of their color. I do think that taking pride in one's heritage and in the accomplishments of that heritage is ok, however.
i'm a black man, and i say there is definitely noting wrong with being proud of who you are!!
Please, try to concentrate on being proud that you are a decent, honorable man, regardless of skin color. That's the most civilized, educated way to go.
I am not white. I am not any particular color. I am human. We come in red, yellow, black, brown, tan, and all colors in-between. When you draw lines, you separate and segregate. That is wrong. Whenever people 'admit' to pride in being white, I think of this poem:
When I was born, I was black.
When I grow up, I'm black.
When I'm ill, I'm black.
When I go out in the sun, I'm black.
When I'm cold, I'm black.
When I die, I'm black.
But you -
When you're born, you're pink.
When you grow up, you're white.
When you're ill, you're green.
When you go out in the sun, you go red.
When you're cold, you go blue.
When you die, you're purple.
And you have the nerve to call me coloured?
I am not white. I don't have friends that are black, white, red, yellow, or pink with purple polka-dots. I have friends. I am proud to be one thing...HUMAN. Any other dividing lines need to be erased.
If and when Obama becomes leader there will be.
*GASP*!!!

Noone should feel shame in what they are, but also noone should feel the need that EVERYONE else needs to be just like him/her. Embrace the ethnical and cultural differences that make the earth what it is.
Not at all.
As long as you don't believe it makes you superior to others.
I am not proud of being white, of having brown eyes, of balding, of having UK size 8 feet, or indeed anything that is nothing to do with any achievement of mine. However, I *am* proud of some of the things I have done, and ashamed of others.
Very strange question, in my opinion.
it's OK, it would also be OK to be proud you are a human being, I can't understand the concept myself. I really don't feel proud of my skin, I'm not embarassed by it I just see it as stuff that goes red in strong sunlight.
No. One can be proud of their heritage. Supremesists seem to believe that if one race is good others must be bad, rather than admit that we all have triumphs and failures throughout history. It's silly really. Oh, the humanity...
No, but if you are like most white Americans it does make you feel strange like you're kind of doing something bad. It has become more than politically incorrect to be white without shame it has almost become a stigma. That shame is becoming almost ingrained. Almost all of us, except white supremacists, would rate the comment "lived his life as a proud black man" as more NOBLE than the comment "lived his life as a proud white man". I am proud of people of other races for their accomplishments and the dignity with which people live their lives. But, the time has come to stop the hate towards white Americans simply because they are born white Americans. We are Americans black, white, Asian, Arabic, Hispanic.
I don't think so, Captain Jack. I'm not proud to be a white woman, though..I'm not proud about anything having to do with myself. I am proud of others and their accomplishments..but it has nothing to do with ethnic background, religious beliefs, political persuasions..it has to do with the quality of their character..so, I probably wouldn't be proud that you are a white man, but I do feel proud of you as a person..you've always treated me fairly and with kindness! Happy Monday! :) ((hugs))
No, for white people founded this country, and we are the children of the Founding fathers, or at least, some are.
I think there is a diffrence between beeing proud of who you are and beeing proud of being white. The first one, yeah, everyone should be proud of being who you are, of your family, of your roots.
Being proud of being white is as stupid as being proud of having two legs, or being proud because you have eyelashes. Being white is as good as being black, brown, yellow, green or whatever.
So, be proud of yourself, the colour of the skin doesnt make you!
Absolutely not! This "white guilt" stuff has got to go!
I myself am predominantly white with some Cherokee, but I identify myself as white.
I'm sick of it being considered "racist" to be happy/proud that you're white!
never ever ever feel ashamed of your background..culture..race..ever!
what really kills me is when someone calls me white girl..lol and they think it's an insult..like its a bad thing to be what i am..g-d thats so sad..i always say yea..and i love it!!
but the second you say something about black people (this happened to me..so i'm not generalizing or pointing anyone out) they freak out and call me racist..
so let me get this straight you can call me white and try to offend me..but if i call you black you flip out..
people are so retarded
no not at all, we all should be proud of our race and each of their accomplishments. There's black pride and gay pride and all kinds of pride in the world, everyone should have pride for the whole of humanity! Even us whiteys. Look at all we (mankind) have accomplished over the years in between killing each other and destroying the planet! It's a wonder we get anything done at all. Just don't forget all the bad things all of us have done, whites blacks asians etc...so history won't repeat itself.
You can be proud of your heritage. As long as you don't think you are superior due to your white manliness then all is well.
No, your born the way you are. You don't have any choice when, where, how, why, or what race you are born: and that goes for everyone. Honestly what good would it do to be ashamed of your race? So your ashamed of somthing you can't control, now who does that benifit? No one right? Does this feeling have a negative impact on someone? yes, you!
So it serves no purpose to be anything other than comfortable and a little proud of your race. AND THAT GOES FOR ALL PEOPLE OF ALL RACES>
there's nothing wrong with that, as long as you don't deny anyone else the same right
No.
Around here, if you say that, a lot of people react like you're being racist, but I think that reaction in itself is racist. If all races are equal, then why can't we all be proud of ours, no matter what it is?
ok guys im gonna crack open a new can of worms here...
Ofcourse theres no shame! You have a rich history of... haha nah nevermind :) LOL
Nothing wrong with it at all. To be ashamed of your ethnicity is to be ashamed of your ancestors, and no one should be ashamed of their forebears. Be proud of the struggles and triumphs of those who came before you, and try to live up to their example. Personally, I am very proud of my European heritage... I think it's neat. But people of other ethnicities shouldn't be any less proud of their heritage as I am of mine. There's no such thing as bad heritage, or a "better" race... just better and worse actions, and both evil and valour know no colour. :)
I will never be ashamed of being white. I think that everyone who tries to tell you that you should be ashamed for the color of your skin is a racist regardless of their own skin color.
NO!!! THERE SHOULDN'T!!!
I think this is a really great question!
We ALL have a right to be PROUD of who we are!
no shame whatsoever. it's when the pride goes overboard and one race begins to see itself as superior, but other than that we should all be proud of our races i think
No, there's not.Not on a surface level. I guess maybe you could change the question up a little and ask if there's any shame in admitting you're an American of European descent though. That may get a different answer anymore, also. ;)
Of all the things that people can be proud of or bash others ones level of melanin seems like it should be way down on the list.
No, shame at all.
Feel free to hmm this little melody:
"If your white & your happy, clap your hands...CLAP CLAP.
If your white & your happy, clap your hands...CLAP CLAP.
If your white & your happy then your face will surely show it..." ;) JK
NO all the other ethnic groups get to celebrate there culture and race so why should'nt we.
No fo course not ! :)
No, stand proud!!!!
No! No shame in what you are! Remember that White Men have done a whole lot of great things in this country. I am African-Irish-Apache mix, and I am proud of every damn part of me. When you boil it all down,If we had more pride in ourselves, AND other folks, this world-neibourhood would be better. I am proud that you asked the question...ROCK ON, Michaelemery. musician, chocolate hippie.
there should'nt be any shame in admitting that you are a white man provided you don't tell this as if you are superior to others or being racist. if its just a reaction then its ok!
no there should be no shame if you are a white person also if you are any other color there should no shame anyone that thinks any different might be or probably is a racist and is just afraid to admit or they are scared of the truth
HELL NO!!! Although some people might consider you to be a racist. It's like a Hispanic comedian once said (I believe it was George Lopez), "Minorities are always told to be proud of their heritage. If you saw someone who's Hispanic and he has a bumper sticker on his car that say's 'Proud to be Hispanic' everyone would say, 'good for him!' If a black person had a bumper sticker that said, 'Black and proud' everyone would say, 'good for him!' But if a white person had a bumper sticker that says, 'I'm proud to be white' he would have a lot of people, even his own race, flipping him off and calling/assuming he was a racist!" Sad but true. Great question by the way! +4
no , absolutely not...should a black man or an asian man be ashamed of their race? i think not..no race should be ashamed of or even hate their God Given life..JUSTME:)
No, no shame. Just don't become a racist and biased to the ethnicities. :)
we should just be proud and grateful that "we are" ...but there should be no shame in anyone of their color or race...we are what WE , as individuals, make of OURSELVES...
UHHM you haven't done anything to be proud of. race is an accident of birth, you had no control over it. If you cure cancer you can be proud of it because you would have actually done something to be proud of. BTW i'm white also
None whatsoever - of course there's no special glory in being a "white man" either - you just are what you are and that's about it.
I don't think there's any shame in being any particular color, but what's the point in being proud of it? You couldn't help what color you were born, and it's not as though you accomplished something by being white or any other color. If you were proud of being a great dad, or getting a A in Geology or keeping your room clean, I could understand that. Being proud of a color - I'm sorry but I don't get that. It's like being proud of having 10 toes.
Hell NO I am too :)
no because im white and british and proud of it but my parner is asian and im also proud of that ,as long as you dont mean it in a racial way i dont think there's no shame.
no of course not just like if someone is hispanic they can be proud of that. its good to be proud of who you are.
Sounds a little racist to me...ha, yeah that is the first thing that comes most peoples mind. It's a shame really. As for myself, I'm not proud to be a part of my race. I have no special kinship with people like me. I don't feel anymore comfortable with them than I do with others. But to answer your question, it is perfectly fine being proud to be who you are. Hell, I don't even root for my school or have school t-shirts or anything. Like I'm going to be happy for a place that raped me financially. No school spirit in me. It's somewhat related to the topic at hand.

95% Scottish, with a little Irish and English thrown in, just for spice...(lol!) Yeah, 900 yrs. I have a picture of my ancestral castle hanging on my wall. Many of my relatives have been there. I will go there, too someday.
by Tom 47 is back in his bear COAT on June 15th, 2008
Impressive. It is rare when people know their history like that.
.
95% Scottish? Just plain wow. It is rare for anyone to have that clear of a background.
by Arisztid on June 15th, 2008
Well, we have researched,..my cousins and I. We already knew a lot, but we have used the internet to research. It has been really interesting. I also learned I have some Native American (Cherokee). I am very proud of that, too.
by Tom 47 is back in his bear COAT on June 15th, 2008
I am pretty straight up Rromani and white. There had to be some race mixing in my Clan's history to produced the genetic trait of lavender eyes but, other than that, my paternal grandmother and mother were purebloods. My paternal grandfather was white, family from Poland to Romania some 300-400 years ago.
.
I am a cut and dry case.
.
Native American would be cool. I love Native American history. Of course, the Scottish have one hell of a history too. I have a close Scottish friend who is very well-versed in her history.

Speaking of this question, today on the radio I heard of a Caucasian gentleman who was wearing a t-shirt in a health club that said "Proud of my heritage" and it apparently offended someone and he was asked to remove it, as it was the only t-shirt he had with him he was asked to leave the club.
What the hell would the ACLU or the NAACP have done if this was a black man treated this way?
by Capt. Jack Sparrow GALCIY on October 23rd, 2008
Anyone else would probably not have been asked to remove their T-shirt.
by Tom 47 is back in his bear COAT on October 23rd, 2008
Ya SEE?! Thanks for pointing that out Tom47, I'm all for equality HONESTLY!
But fer sh*t's sake let's make it EQUALITY across the board!!!!!
by Capt. Jack Sparrow GALCIY on October 24th, 2008
Big Bad White Man can't be "equal", Capt.....He has to be "reigned in", lest he dominates the world! (lol!).

They may not like "us", but they definitely like the "stuff" we make and produce. They like it a lot. They would like to have it for free. Sorry,...I don't work for free.

well said tom
by BOOZE HOUND... nothing is nonsence on October 26th, 2008
By "us" you mean chinese? I think they are the ones producing all the stuff you, I and everyone consumes... or what did you mean?
by Anonymous on July 28th, 2009
Well, no, I did not mean Chinese. Yeah, many buy a lot of it. I know we have to buy from them to sell them anything, but..there needs to be a better balance.
by Tom 47 is back in his bear COAT on July 28th, 2009
well said tom that would never of happened to anyone else the the law protects the minoritys and punishes the white majority, equality works both ways.
by BOOZE HOUND... nothing is nonsence on July 28th, 2009
Somewhere along the way, somebody got the idea that in order to make minorities "equal", the majority had to be made "less equal". Pretty dumb, but what can you expect from places like Harvard..or the U. of Wisconsin, or Berkley (?) Anyway, they don't live in the real world,..only their fantasy of what reality should be. "Well, if things were perfect"....Well, that would mean that the Millenium had arrived,..but that would be from Heaven above,..not from any piss-ant college in Massachusetts, Wisconsin, or California. When people start to realize that there are no secular modern "prophets", only some ambitious Phd's. who want to sell books, maybe they will look back to some real prophets. There have been a few.
