Does it drive you crazy when you are told that Wicca is the "Olde Religion" or that it predates Christianity?

my friend who is an 8th genoration wiccan says it dose predate christianity as it is a form of druidism which was practiced before the Romans let alone Christianity.

Researching Reconstructionism has granted me a new level of annoyance at such idiocy. If people cannot accept a belief system for its theology and must make up some lie about its origins in a distant, Mystikal past, then they'd really be better off staring at crystals and talking to ghosts with the New Agers.

No. Wicca is a neo-pagan religion. While it's origins date from the late 1940's in its present form, its belief system is based on ideas and concepts much older than that. While, there is a large portion that has been "reconstructed", the foundation does pre-date Christianity. There are some arguable debate about the truth of this statement, there is also some support for it as well. Crowley, Gardner, and others did not just pull this out of thin air. In that sense it is a "new" religion with "olde" basis for many of it's core belief. Whether you agree with this depends on how you view this debate. But, personally as a practicing Wiccan, this does not drive me crazy one way or the other. I see and respect rational arguments for both viewpoints. I don't stress over it.

Not crazy, but it is irksome. I really think that we should be intellectually and historically accurate, and makes us look foolish when we are not. Wicca itself is not an "Olde Religion". It was founded by Gerald Gardner somewhere around 1950. Yes, it contains elements of older, pre-Christian religions. It also contains elements of ceremonial magic, Hinduism, Buddhism, etc. That doesn't mean that it IS a pre-Christian religion. It is a new religion, period. Besides the fact that Wicca is new, what does the age of it prove? Are only old religions valid? Is one religion superior to another just because it predates it? What is the relevancy? It just seems like an immature, irrelevant pissing contest.

YES YES YES IT DOES!!!!! My friend that has been "wiccan" for like 3 years says you cant cuss, and theres some kind of wiccan bible, she said that to be a true wiccan you have to stop cussing.... She also says that Wicca pre-dates paganism!!!!!! It annoys the hell out of me because ive been following the wiccan path for about 3 months and i know none of that is true, it really annoys me because she pretends like she knows everything about it.
