Question

Help answer this question below.

Why does the oil pressure drop to zero when at idle? I have a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a 5.2 liter V8. The oil is topped off and new. The oil filter is new. Is my oil pressure sending unit bad or is it something worse?

I would check that quick...I've seen the 3.9, 5.2, and the 5.9 oil pickups several times plugged with crap...

99% OF THE TIME IT IS IN FACT THE OIL SENDING UNIT, AS LONG AS YOU HAVE NO KNOCKING OR VALVE RATTLE AT IDLE, WHICH WOULD BE A POSSIBLE CAUSE OF LOW OIL PRESSURE. THE SENDING UNIT IS LOCATED ON THE PASS SIDE OF THE DISTIBUTOR BEHIND THE INTAKE MANIFOLD, TO REMOVE YOU WILL HAVE TO HAVE A SENDING UNIT SOCKET. THESE ARE AVAILABLE AT MOST MAJOR AUTO PARTS STORE FOR CHEAP. GOOD LUCK
