I have a fear of heights, but am considering going skydiving. It's always been something i've wanted to do. Is that normal?

Skydiving is when you pull the cord and the chute opens, parachuting is when you jump and the parachute is already open. I believe (not sure) you have to do a few parachute jumps before you are allowed to skydive, hence my answer below.

Thank you! I really look forward to the experience. I always thought skydivng and parachuting were the same thing too. Anyhow, its good to know there's others out there like me.

Galooly, I think we are just talking about a language difference here and maybe it means different things depending on the country in which you live.
Where I learned to skydive in California, you can do one of two things: tandem skydiving, in which you are tethered to a professional skydiver (you freefall for about a minute and then they will let you pull the cord), or AFF (Accelerated Freefall) where you have two other people jump with you and "spot" you in case something happens. In both cases, you can do this your first time skydiving and in both cases you are freefalling for about a minute and then you pull the cord.

Ok thanks I wasn`t sure. My brothers parachuted and they said it was obligatory before moving up to skydiving. Maybe they were mistaken. Thanks for the clarification.
