This is a good question that jacfar brings out. What it is , is a technical point. Throughout the centuries, many in Christendom have worshiped Jesus Christ as if he were Almighty God. Jesus himself, however, directed attention and worship only to Jehovah God. For example, when prodded to do an act of worship to the Devil, Jesus said: “It is Jehovah your God you must worship, and it is to him alone you must render sacred service.” (Matthew 4:10) Later Jesus instructed his disciples: “Do not call anyone your father on earth, for one is your Father, the heavenly One.”—Matthew 23:9. To a Samaritan woman, Jesus described the type of worship that individuals must give to God. Their worship must be based on spirit and truth. Indeed, “the Father is looking for suchlike ones to worship him.” (John 4:23, 24) Yes, reverent adoration should be expressed only to God. To render worship to anyone or anything else would be a form of idolatry, which is condemned in both the Hebrew and the Greek Scriptures.—Exodus 20:4, 5; Galatians 5:19, 20. Jesus certainly occupies a pivotal role in true worship, one worthy of honor and respect. (2 Corinthians 1:20, 21; 1 Timothy 2:5) He is the only way through which we are able to approach Jehovah God. (John 14:6) Certainly,Jesus Is worthy of obeisance. In his letter to the Hebrews, the apostle Paul explains that as the “heir of all things,” Jesus has “sat down on the right hand of the Majesty in lofty places.” (Hebrews 1:2-4) Thus, “in the name of Jesus every knee should bend of those in heaven and those on earth and those under the ground, and every tongue should openly acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father.”—Philippians 2:10,11. However, true Christians do well to direct their worship only to Jehovah God, the Almighty. Someone has marked you down jacfar. I marked you back up.

I don't belong to the JW faith myself but I think they, like many other Christians who study the Bible with an open mind, can see from the Bible itself that Jesus is not God. 1 nowhere in the Bible does Jesus say 'I am God' or even 'worship me' 2 Jesus says "Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve." Matthew 4:10 3 Jesus says this God is one by repeating the OT declaration "The Lord our God is one Lord" (Mark 12:19) thus showing he didn't bring any new concept of God. 4 Jesus emphasised that this one God was everybody's God equally including himself "unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God" John 20:17 5 Jesus makes clear that this one God that sent him is the TRUE God and the ONLY God. "that they (everybody) might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent" John 17:3 PS In case anyone dismisses the above by saying 'it's only the JW's and a few other Christian groups that hold that view'. They should note that these 'views' come straight from the Bible and straight from the reported speech of Christ himself, and also that the world's over 1.3 billion Muslims hold the same 'views'. If you add the mainstream Christians who secretly agree with the above that would make it the belief of the majority of the Jesus-loving faiths.

They don't worship Jesus because they are not true Christians.Neither the Jehovah's Witnesses nor the Mormons are recognized by the main Christian churches. The Roman catholic, protestant ,Anglicans and born- agains all look upon the Jehovah's Witnesses as unfortunate people(A Cult) led astray by a false prophet. They don't use the Christian bible but a re-written version by their founder Charles Taze Russell a man of very dubious character. True Christians believe in the Trinity of The Father, Son,and Holy Spirit (i.e. Three Divine persons in the one GOD.) When Jesus descended to earth as a man it was to save mankind from Satan who had and still has great power over the earth. When he returns it will be to reclaim his people who have remained faithful, and to consign to hell all those who have followed false prophets. After all this happens Jesus will return to heaven to rule as GOD (ie The Blessed Trinity of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit). I know the Blessed Trinity is a very complex concept and I can only advise you to speak to a properly ordained Roman Catholic Priest to discuss it further. Hope I have helped you with this answer and not confused you even more...God Bless

eoghan, I have looked into the trinity and it never came out untill a few hundred years after Jesus' death and resurrection. You have to ask yourself why it took that long to come about. Over the years some of the sciptures in the bible have been slightly twisted. What Jehovah's Witnesses do is do lots of research and find the bible scriptures as far back in history as possible and then they use the oldest scriptures to put in their bible. Also some people complain that they call God the father, Jehovah. But acually if you go to the museum where you can read the original scrolls of the bible, the name Jehovah is in there so many times, but later Gods name was taken out. And thats what Jehovah's Witnesses do, they do lots of research to find the truth. And it was a pagan that came out with the trinity about 300 years after Jesus. Anyone who was brave enough to deny the trinity was burned at the stake, so the concept of the trinity has gone on for about 1,700 years. Jesus never taught the trinity but what he did teach was that all worship and prays should be to the father. The sad thing is, most people now have the latest version of the new testament and dont properly search for the truth.

Hi Folks, There are many examples through out the bible if you care to truly search with an open heart and a yearning for the Father. Here's just a simple one. Yo will read according to Rev 19:10 and 22:9 that John (when he is taken up in spirit to the throne room of God and escorted by an angel) is rebuked and told to Worship God only. Got that! Nothing suprising . Similar to one of the commandments correct. It's interesting to then find in the same book of Revelation that the 24 elders surrounding the throne of God falling down and worshipping at the thrown...But take a look at who they are worshipping in Rev 5:14 It couldn’t be any clearer….”And the 24 elders fell down and worshipped the Lamb” Now if those surrounding the throne room were only permitted to worship God (as the bible so clearly states throughout that worship is for God alone) and yet the elders were not rebuked for doing so then it is obvious that the Lamb they are worshipping IS GOD. So the next thing to discover is...Now who does YOUR bible say the Lamb is? I'll give you one guess!

I have just checked in a number of other translations and I see that you are correct Scodey. The term “the Lamb” is omitted in the other versions I have checked. Apologies. I personally prefer to come to conclusions myself based on the scripture rather than be guided by a potentially over zealous translation anyway. Oops! That said, to put it into some context, and address this ambiguity I am with you and agree that I am to consider the immediate prior verses and even chapter as you have pointed out. It’s amazing how much more you can get out of scripture when you cross reference the evidence. Please see below where this journey has taken me. This time I hope these translations match with yours. At least in context. To start with, it appears to be quite clear as to who all this glorious worship is being directed throughout Rev 5. As in Rev 5:12 we see thousands x thousands of angelic beings in mid worship singing “worthy is the Lamb, who was slain to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honour and glory and praise”… Then it would appear that almost all creation seem to join in to an exalting worship chorus singing… “To him that sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honour and glory and power forever and ever”. Given this, I am able to appreciate why the translators in the previous version I read have provided such documentation and would therefore still read it the very same way even without their channel. Now to be sure and test my understanding further. As you have indicated this worship seems to be a continuity from the worship in the previous chapter (Ch4) and therefore it’s no surprise to recognize the identical tones and chants by the beings present. As in v10-11, the 24 elders fall down before him who sits on the throne and worship him who lives forever and ever…saying You are worthy our Lord and God to receive glory and honour and power. If the specifics of 5:12 don’t provide enough evidence for your liking to support the identity of the recipient of worship lets park that thought for the moment and search for additional scriptural evidence to provide further contextual understanding. So from here I turn to 5:10 to see if I can gain an understanding of the identity of the recipient of this worship (from another angle if I may). We find here that the 24 elders are “worshipping him who lives forever and ever”. Well who is “HE” that “LIVES FOREVER AND EVER”? Searching takes me to the following scripture. Rev 1:17-18 reads …“I am the First and the Last”… I am the Living One; I was dead, and behold I AM ALIVE FOREVER AND EVER” . I think it is quite clear as to who is making such a unique and prolific statement. And with the additional line of “I was dead, but behold am alive???” I’d say it’s quite obvious that this is none other than JESUS (also similar in 2:8). This correlation between 1:18 and 5:10 support the view that it is indeed the Lamb (that is Jesus) (who lives forever and ever) that is the recipient of this worship. But in lieu of skepticism lets not stop there, especially with the next lot of evidence present. The one who claims to be alive forever and ever (ie the recipient of worship in Rev 5:10) also clearly claims as above in 1:17 …“I am the First and the Last”. An equally unique and prolific statement which again with some cross referencing should reveal the identity of the one making this statement and in turn identify the recipient of worship. Rev 22:13 reads “ I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End”. Here we once again find this same statement that provides a revelation of the very unique identity of it’s claimant (the recipient of worship). Then Rev 21:6 … “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End…(v7) I will be their God and they will be my children”, Again I ask who is this that repeatedly makes these unique “A to Z, first and last” type claims.. He keeps going no doubt.. Rev 1:8 “I am the Alpha and the Omega , the Beginning and the End says the Lord God. I am the one who is, who always was and who is still to come, the Almighty”. Wow, with all that under our belt we now have even further evidence to go by…not only is Jesus (based on the above) 1. the one who lives forever and ever, 2. The First and Last, Alpha and Omega etc but now we also know that he is the one who is, who always was and who is still to come ? In cross referencing these claims we now have a perfect understanding of the claimants identity and funnily enough the corresponding identity of the recipient of the worship in the worship event we started discussing in Rev 4:8 Here we see the worship by the four living beings and sequentially followed by the 24 elders saying…”Holy, Holy Holy is the Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come”. In summary, Based on numerous cross referencing of scriptures there is no ambiguity about who the worship is being directed to if not only in this angelic worship event but throughout the entire book of Revelation. By the grace of God and the blood of the Lamb I hope to meet you there when this goes down. What a blast it will be. I hope you will remember me at this awesome event (I’ll wear a funny hat or something…LoL). Cheers friend.
