  • Fattening food is cheap, and cheap food is fattening. In most of the cases of morbid obesity I've seen or heard of, the person had worked out *Some* way of making money for food and such. I'd imagine that most morbidly obese people are either able to work somehow, unable to work and living on disability, or supported by their families.
  • Welfare! Was the documentary you were watching called "Big Medicine"?
  • A lot of it is by family member who feel guilty. I've heard countless stories of children who get stuck feeding their mother or father.
  • Yes, most documentaries I have seen of enormously obese people show their friends and family supplying the food. And this same support is sometimes used as an ultimatum - as in, "I'll stop supplying food unless you get up and do something for yourself". People obviously feel bad for the person, and feel the need to be helpful. It's sad!
