  • An aortic thrombosis is a blood clot that has formed in the aorta(large artery)of the heart, usually because of heart problems like an irregular heart beat. If it breaks off and travels through the bodies arteries it can reach the brain and get stuck in a smaller artery, causing the blood to build up and eventually rupture the artery, releasing the blood into the brain, causing brain damage, which causes a stroke. It depends on what part of the brain that the damage occurs in on whether the results are severe or minor ( ie paralysis compared to minor head tilting). Strokes can be caused by other things but strokes caused by an aortic blood clot breaking off are common. If the stroke was caused by an aortic clot then the cat would be put on blood thinners to try to prevent future clots. In this instance you could say that the aortic thrombosis and stroke were treated with the same thing. The cat would probably also put on a medication to regulate it's heartbeat, like Digoxin. Hope this helped explain it!
