  • Because they're lazy so & sos who place no value on their own life or those around them. Also, some may feel it obstructs movement or could simply 'forget'. Still this is no excuse for not doing something that requires little effort and is proven to reduce fatalities.
  • They are either too lazy, stubborn, or too sensitive to the feel of a belt against their body.
  • Some people don't like to be told what to do, especially by the government, which is why some places don't have helmet laws for motorcyclists, either. It's the same old story - cut off your nose to spite your face.
  • possibly their parents never taught them the values of life..those kinds of people have friends who are like them..if you study the DMV manual, it will tell you why you must wear seatbelts..save a life, and not be ignorant. ive always followed the motto: drive safe! ive been doing that for 40 years
  • Because, gosh darnit, my fore fathers didn't spill their blood for this beautiful country, didn't risk their lives to bring democracy to our fair shores, didn't sail across the sea to fight the Kaizer, so that some fat cat politico more interested in votes than the common good, can sit up there in his corner office and dictate to us, to me! how I'm going to drive my car damnit! What kind of pinko Nazi government do we have that it feels necessary to tell me how to live my life? Or, I assume that's what they say. People don't like to be told what to do, and I guess not buckling up is their (rather stupid) method of protesting. Oh well, the laws of evolution should slowly weed them out anyways.
  • The main reason? They don't care to understand the facts or the proof from studies of about the last 20-30 years of driving safer. Wearing your seat belt will save your life! These fools argue you're more likely to be trapped inside your vehicle by your seat belt, than thrown free and rolled over by your 2 ton vehicle because you weren't wearing it. Even when they witness someone they know coming out of a bad accident alive, who was wearing their seat belt, they don't accept it! It's called an accident for a reason, but some with big-o egos - you know the type: The Best Drivers in the World - would never be in an accident where having a seat belt would make a difference anyway. I've heard people say wearing seat belts messes up their clothes or restricts their movement. I don't know what they're wearing or trying to do while sitting in their car, but it's a lousy excuse. I say, having to be in a wheelchair for life will mess up my clothes and really restrict my movement . . . Some of these same people also drink and drive . . .
  • Some people find them unconfortable.People who have big bubbles find them agrivating and in their way.Inpaticular it's a habbit of mine to wear one, and if someone really tries they'll get in the habbit too.
  • Honestly, it has NOTHING to do with the government, studies, or rebelion! Its pure neglect! I know with me its just being absent-minded! When I THINK of it, I put it on. I'm not lazy and I don't think I shouldn't have to wear it. I just completely forget! I don't even think of it when I get in the car. That is why new cars now beep obnoxoiusly when you haven't put it on.
  • --STUPIDITY---
  • I don't know the main reason but some of my friends don't wear them because they don't think it is cool. Stupid huh?
  • Seat belts are binding. they limit your freedom, inside an automobile. This loss of freedom, is a small sacrifice, in the event of a head-on collision. I have witnessed, where the auto seat belt, has saved many, many lives. Seat belts are a pain in the rear, but its whats upfront......that counts.
  • LAZINESS thats all there is too it
  • My dad doesn't wear a seat belt or if he does he puts it behind him. He says it's due to a basketball injury in college that hurts his neck & shoulders (where the seat belt is placed.) Although in the long run, if there were to be an accident, I'm sure he'd rather have a belt hurting his shoulder than being flung out of a moving vehicle....
  • They didn't have a father like mine who made me belt up years before it was a law in NY State. His favorite slogan was "Belt your wife, save her life". Of course an ad campaign like this wouldn't go over very big right now, it would be considered sexist and abusive. I can't tell you why people don't wear seat belts. I can tell you my motivation in wearing one. Oh, Psychade come and get me with thumbs down for not answering the question. I will tell you WHY I DO WEAR SEAT BELTS. 1) Don't feel like becoming Alice in Wonderland and going through the looking glass. 2) You can get pretty messed up when you fly forward and an airbag flies outward at the same time. 3) It's a law in NY State and my Insurance company insists that I wear a seat belt. 4) Without one, I fly all over when taking turns or coming to sudden stops.
  • I have an aunt who refuses to wear hers. Despite her crazy fast driving, she's more inclined to think she'll drown in the Ohio river from being trapped in her car by the seat belt. There is no rationalizing with these people. The evidence speaks for itself, seat belts save lives.
  • comfort and freedom the gov shouldent be abel to tell us we cant risk our life
  • Comfort! I dont like bein buckled down to my seat like that its so restricting! And i honestly think it should be our own choice whether we use them or not....it is our own lives at stake after all
  • My father-in-law has a hard time adapting to technology. Last time he tried helping me on my car, he wanted to know where my carburetor was. And back before he stopped learning new advances in automotives, seat belts were restricted to only the fastest of the fast street cars. My mother-in-law... she'll wear them in her car but not mine because modern American cars are equipped with longer seat belts than the older imports than I generally drive. Translation; like many Americans, she's too fat to fit. I don't know many people who don't wear them, but those who don't (other than my in-laws) recite my state motto; "Live Free or Die".
  • Rejection of authority...
  • My Dad had the doctor write an order stating that he can't move his wrist good enough to put on a seat belt. Of course he's in his 80's and is reaching the point that he shouldn't be driving especially at night. Sounds kind of stupid to me. Should I make the doctor liable if he has an accident?
  • It's all about being stupid and lazy. Honestly, if you're in an accident you're not only endagering yourself, but others in the car because you will get thrown around and into them. Plus, the paramedics are realy getting tired of scraping people who won't wear their seat belts off the front off cars and roads. How do you think it makes them feel to come up on one of these accidents where the person could have survived just to clean up a dead body? It doesn't restrick your movemnets. I mean what are you doing gymnastics? It doesn't mess up your clothes. And what a stupid thing to be worried about when you're life's at stake. But if you don't wear it you'll get a ticket and loose your liscence, you'll lose your insurance and if the accidents bad enough you'll DIE.
  • some people think that only bad things happen to other people so figure it'll be fine if they don't wear one
  • Because they beleive that if they get into an accedent, they need to get uot faster. And they will, straight out the windsheild and splattered all over the road and someone else's car.
  • You can manipulate data to confirm just about anything you want. I'm not saying you're incorrect. I'm just not that impressed when people start throwing data around.
  • To all who are in agreement with the law, whatta buncha suckers! There have been accidents for quite a while now, but seat belts were mandated into the cars in the 60's to give us the choice. I see no reason to legislate that my neighbor wears his. I have an airbag in my face, and that makes me feel ok with the risk.Driving will ALWAYS have risk involved at speeds of 70MPH. Isn't it strange that now we have air bags going in the cars, but we need belts too. This is clearly George W taking freedoms. Why else would all of the states line up and do this? As if they all had this need at the same time! And even South Carolina passed it!! We know why, but that's too long winded.
  • I know someone that has a medical excuse from her doctor allowing her to NOT wear one, because of nerve damage she has, and if the belt presses, even from something as simple as a turn, it can cause her to black out.
  • Cockiness
  • Because they're rebels.
  • "They operate manually and are a lot of trouble to click and unclick." This is the excuse most people give me. I believe if most automobiles were forced to have automatic seat belts, like Hondas, wearing seatbelts would not be a problem.
  • STUPID is the only reason. PURE STUPIDITY. No other reason or answer could justify for not wearing them. Too big add a belt or rope but tie yourself down. No reason.
  • Dain bramage from a previous accident.
  • It's such a GREAT hassle! Don't you know how much energy and time it takes to put one on? A full 1 second! And of course I'm so lucky and blessed, what are the chances of ME out of all people in the world, to get into a car accident?
  • You used to didn't have to & now it's law but some people still don't abide by it. They say it feels confining or they just forget.
  • because they are the weakest link
  • They live in fantasy land - not reality.
  • The one I'm most familiar with is, "If my car catches on fire, I'll be thrown clear of the danger.". Perhaps they don't realize that they might be "thrown clear" head or face-first through their windshield, and they might already be on fire anyway.
  • because, they want to die or either they is crazy/stupid outta they mind ! Haha Kala i have a qood answer den urz:] - N.America
  • People don't wear their seatbelt because they have a choice. When a population is presented with a choice, some will go one way and others will chose the opposing way. Why do people smoke? Why do people eat unhealthy? Why do people use foul language? We all have opinions on what people should and should not do but at the end of the day we can only decide for ourselves. I'm willing to bet that people who DON'T wear a seatbelt aren't hosting a forum trying to convince narrow minded people to stop their incessant wearing of their safety belt. There are people who don't wear a seatbelt - get over it and try understanding something more complex like why people in Darfur are dying from a massive genocide. Oh thats right, people not wearing their seatbelt is a lot more easier (and more convenient) to worry about. -Cheers
  • My father is in his 80's he has been driving since the late 1930's. my father drove for over twenty years without seat belts. My father is also paranoid that he is one the 15% if he wears a seat belt it would kill him instead of help him, like if his car was on fire he would have a hard time taking the seat belt off.For me wearing a seat belt is instinct i don't have to think about it.
  • I don't know, unless they are suicidal. Either that or they're insane.
  • Many people are lawless.
