Well, if we are all children of god then what are you worried about..... Sins are a concept that keeps people within moral boundaries. Sins are not genetic nor are they real; However, the things you do today will affect your children tomorrow. Simply be a good friend and father and I think you will do fine.

Each one will carry his own load before God as Paul told the Galatians. Romans 5:12 states that “through one man sin entered into the world and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men because they had all sinned.” (Compare 1John 1:8-10.) Some have explained this as meaning that all of Adam’s future offspring shared in Adam’s initial act of sin because, as their family head, he represented them and thereby made them, in effect, participants with him in his sin. The apostle, however, speaks of death as ‘spreading’ to all men, which implies a progressive rather than a simultaneous effect on Adam’s descendants. Paul’s words also point to this conclusion when he says that “just as through the disobedience of the one man [Adam] many were constituted sinners, likewise also through the obedience of the one person [Christ Jesus] many will be constituted righteous.” (Ro 5:19) Those to be “constituted righteous” by Christ’s obedience were not all immediately so constituted at the moment of his presenting his ransom sacrifice to God, but they progressively come under the benefits of that sacrifice as they come to exercise faith in that provision and become reconciled to God. (Joh 3:36; Ac 3:19) So, too, progressive generations of Adam’s descendants have been constituted sinners as they have been conceived by their innately sinful parents in Adam’s line.

God I hope not. My poor kids....

That is from the Old Testament. Later in the New Testament we find that Jesus died for our sins so we no longer have to suffer for the sins of those who have gone on before us. Atleast this is the way I have interpretated the Old and New Testament. I'm no Biblical Scholar, not even a college graduate. Just an everyday person trying to live and spread His great words. God Bless, <:))))<><

I think what that is talking about is abusive parenting. Modeling destructive conflict resolution to your children will teach them how to act as adults and they in turn will model the same behaviour to their children. I don't think that the bible means to say that the your children will be punished for the lie yourfather may have told in his youth.
-
No, not at all. What this means is that where there is weakness in the behavior of the parents, it is likely the children will have that same weakness. It's not only the Bible which says this, but the findings of modern psychology.
-
isn't that what original sin is all about?
-
we do not carry our parents sin, so you have no reason to worry! I highly recommend you read the Ezekiel 18 which very clearly and direcly answers this question.
-
The thing is not that my children will be punished for any specific sin that I might commit. Rather, it is that my children will see how I behave and emulate my actions. Thus, they will follow my example and wind up committing the same sins. This is a pattern that we see over and over again through out history and across all societies. Children can and do break this pattern. As someone else pointed out, Ezekiel 18 specifically addresses this issue and clearly state tha,t when a person turns away from their sins, God does not remember them. So, it is not the specific sins of the father for which a child may be condemned. It is the on going pattern of sinful behavior that is passed down through the generation that can cause the child to become guilty of the same sins leading to his condenation if he does not break the pattern.

"Our parents" is referring to Adam and Eve. The sin of Adam caused sin to be in every human born...until they accept Jesus Christ as their personal Savior. Then their sin will be forgiven.
-
Yes. See what a loving piece of shit christians worship. Jesus is sacrilege. Kill God in the name of man!!!!
-
yes and no. they suffer from the things our ancestors did, like war, racism, ect.. but it's also partly our faults for continuing to sin and carry on these things.
-
it means you should be reading something else that could actually benefit your kids, not a book of ignorance and generalizing

...Well infact, its not like...they PAY for it, through bad luck... but yes children do pay for their fathers sins... Say the father was an alcoholic...those kids feel pain from their fathers sins. Say their father went to jail and is in prison their whole life, that child has to live without a father, and a role model... and then that trickles into the life of that child, which is passed on to the next child ( in most cases) That child becomes a drug addict, or does bad in school...it ruins his adult life, he has children...those children dont have a home...or have no money, they live in poverty... anything...until somebody breaks the cycle... But yes...it does pass from generation to generation...no matter how hard you try to stop it, until finally they understand what is happening and really trys to make a change and change it all for the next generation.
-
Nope, it means 'it's all make-believe bullshit'
-
if you take the words literally rather than figurativly, then yes thats what it means
-
It's not just sin, it's also sort of a metaphor, such as if your father was a crazy lunatic killer, then the children have to live with this shame, or if the father dies and leaves debt, they will try to collect the debt from the children. As far as to how many generations this goes back, I guess it depends on how serious the offense. Some of the "father's sins" incidents in the Bible only affected the next generation, others were forever.

Well, let me explain it this way. My cousins' dad was addicted to porn. He cheated on his wife numerous times and would come home drunk. The kids watched that every day. So, the wife moved out and lived wherever she could find with her children. She lives with the pain and can't support herself, while the kids can't have quality time with either parent. They don't get the attention they need and are slowly slipping from their parents' grip, and they don't even realize. They are experimenting with alcohol now and getting caught up in the wrong things because they grew up with it. Sin effects everybody, not just one person. It won't just effect you; it'll effect everyone around you.
-
The Bible deals with sin. In this case we are talking about the results of sin; Not the hellfire on the sinner kind of results, but the real and felt effect it leaves in the world of the sinner - most of all, to the people whom the sinner loves most
-
If you believe what the Old Testament says, then the answer is yes. The New Testament ignores the idea of inherited sin entirely, and in general uses the word to mean "transgress." BTW, there are at least half a dozen and more words in the original language that are translated as "sin." Some mean "err" or "transgress" or "insult" or "trespass" or "encroach" or "disobey" or half a dozen other things.
