  • it doesn't cause more bacteria, unless it's room temperature ground meat possibly, but you will lose so much quality it nearly does make it inedible. But that mostly applies to meats thawed at room temperatures. If you defrost it in your fridge you don't have the degradation as bad and sometimes you can refreeze successfully, however the meat will never be as good as fresh.
  • I am a qualified cook and hold a food hygiene certificate and you never refreeze thawed out food of any sort. Even if it's been defrosted in a fridge, bacteria start to multiply again once the food starts to thaw out, even in a fridge.
  • No. I have had a piece of fresh beef I got from Sam's club it was a short loin, boneless, when you slice off a steak you had a new york strip steak. I left it in the refrigerator for three days then I took it to my Dad's and sliced four nice thick steaks off of it. I took the rest back home and put it back in the fridge for in its package inside a gallon ziplock bag. One week later I took it out of the bag and it didn't smell too good so I washed it off by running it under cold water and rubbing it until it didn't smell bad any more. Then I cut off four more steaks and took them to my Dad's again. They were wonderful. The rest of the meat I put into the freezer for about ten days. Then I got the meat out of the freezer and let it thaw in the fridge for two days. I had to rinse it again then cut it into four more steaks. The first two I cooked on the gas grill that night and the last two, the best two I would say, I cooked the next night. They were awesome.
  • I have eaten raw hamburger for years. I have eaten defrosted hamburger meat for years. I have defrosted and refreezed hamburger meat for years and defrosted it again and ate it for years. The hamburger meat is used for a dish called Kibbee and is eaten raw. I turned 65yo recently, never had food poisining and never felt ill. So, I speak from experience. Additionally, the meat was red in color and had no odor.
