Talisker whiskey has a a high phenol level so even if you are an occassional whiskey drinker it has a very distinct taste. the closest i have come to tasting it is drambui. otherwise johnny walker green label. and thats a litlle pricey for this bartender. the 18yo is unavailable in some areas.

I am a keen whisky drinker and have tried most of the Talisker varieties. I am Currently drinking a Talisker 57 Degrees North which my wife brought back from Gatwick Airport. I must say that even for me, this is a fierce dram. As with all Talisker it has a very distinct flavour and coupled with the increased alchohol level makes it an interesting and challenging drink, VERY intense but if you already enjoy Talisker it is worth exploring. Needs some still spring water to really open up the complexities or possibly an ice cube although some would argue this changes the flavinoids... experiment and make your own mind up. I would say this is less accessible than the Distiller edition and you might be more satisfied with this version as it has the all the flavours with a softer finish. The 18 year old is excellent and the 10 year old has many followers. Right now, I am sipping a Lagavullin Distillers edition 1992 and it is absolutely excellent on every level. If you haven't yet, I would strongly recommend trying it. Malt Whisky is very personal and you should find your own favourite by exploring the whole range of the classic malts. A journey that will be full of surprises but I am sure will never be dull. Cheers

The Distillers edition is a good choice. Perhaps try the Irish whiskeys such as Bushmills, a nice surprising drink. Jameson 12 yr old is another... Oban Distillers is good,(as is the 18) Happy Hunting
