Help answer this question below.
Correct grammar, would be to say, I went to the hospital.
I say "the hospital"
I went to the hospital.
I went to the hospital. The second is incorrect grammar.
I was educated in the US so I say the former.
i say i went to the hospital
I say "the" hospital, but my British friends in Worthing just say "hospital".
nouns need articles
the hospital.
..to the hospital.
I use "the".
I love the people who say dogmatically that the second choice is incorrect. Perhaps they have not been to university.
I went to the hospital. that is the proper way.
I went to the ....
I know people who say " i went t'hospital"
In proper british English it is "I went to hospital", since it's a health care institution like school and college are educational institutions.
Note, you use "I went to school" and not "I went to the school", as you use "I went to college" and not "I went to the college", it would be different if you used it in specific situations: "I went to hospital"( I don't know if also putting a reason such as 'because I was ill' is still correct so I finished there), while it is "I went to THE hospital to visit my sick friend."
