First of all I think it is extremely unfair to claim the the police are at all uninterested in stopping it! It's not a case of evolution, rape is something that turns your entire existence into upheaval. Evolution won't dim our emotions because they are essential to our survival. Unfortunately the only hope we have is that our society will 'evolve' into a more utopian society that does not in fact rape others or that we let big brother get even more omniscient and then be able to stop it before it happens!

If you truly believe in the Bible, evolution did not create woman - God made us and I doubt He will change the physical make-up of us because of mankind's indiscretions.

Firstly, I agree with Farina that, in general, the police intend to stop rape if they can. But in the current state of the world and the law, it is a hard crme to prove in many cases. I wish it were otherwise. Howver, you bring evolution into the question. It is a fundamental fact of evolution that males and females have different evolutionary motivations; mfemale can bear onluy a relatively small number of childern, into each of which they put, without having any choice about it, a huge investment. Males have a choice; faithful caring males can put as mich in as females and have a few, well cared for children. But they also have the option of love-em-and -leave-em, or even of rape. Evolutionarily, those are both strategies which "work" - though morally we all know which is right. So, no, evolution is not going to "sort this out" for us automatically. There will, regerettably, always be men on the extreme edge of infidelity who resort to rape, and women will always feel violated becasue one of their relatively few reproductive opportunities has been (potentially) stolen. The more we put the "cost" or rape up, the fewer there will be - which is good. But women will never accept it. They haven't in the past hundred thousand years, in which rape was (sadly) relatively common; and they won't in the future. Evolution does not produce pretty answers, it produces stable ones. And the balance between promiscuity (leading to rape at the extreme) and fidelity will always exist.

Don't blame the police, blame the courts. It's the courts, and the ACLU, that make it so difficult to get convictions for crimes that most criminals think of the police as more of a joke than a threat. Besides which criminals American prisons aren't such a bad place to be, if you're ac/dc. Look at John Mark Karr, confessing to a crime he couldn't possibly have committed so he could go to jail in America instead of Thailand.

Actually, I think instead of relying on evolution, we can look to our Creator to eliminate those with evil intent that prey upon others. God will remove people who harm others through rape as well as other ways. Psalms 37: 9 For evildoers themselves will be cut off, But those hoping in God are the ones that will possess the earth. 10 And just a little while longer, and the wicked one will be no more; And you will certainly give attention to his place, and he will not be. 11 But the meek ones themselves will possess the earth, And they will indeed find their exquisite delight in the abundance of peace.

How do you suppose the police would stop a crime like this? It is usually a random and brutal crime that cannot, for the most part, be predicted. If one cannot know when or where a crime would happen, how could it be stopped? And, sadly, on a grander scale, even if the perpetrator is caught and prosecuted, as stated in other responses, they are far less likely to be convicted as in other crimes, due to lack of witnesses and evidence and the necessary burden on proof. Also, as horrendous and tragic these events are, they really do not make up enough of an environmental impact on the species as a whole to probably trigger some kind of evolutionary change. The change, one would hope, would come from the originators of the crime. Though, again, if history is any lesson, this is also unlikely. Unfortunately.

I will not comment on the police comment, but I will say, that I think women have allready evolved to a certain extent. There was a time, when women were more timid with men, and felt they could not voice thier feelings, now I would kill a rapist, if I could, while he was trying to rape me.

Evolution doesn't work that way. There isn't a gene that handles rape.
