  • OPINIONS There may be several opinions out there regarding what Christianity was/is all about. To judge between them fairly we need to see the evidences backing each opinion. From the Islamic point of view there was no greater authority on Christianity than Christ himself (not Paul) and there is no greater authority on Islam other than the HQ. UNDESIRABILITY OF IGNORANCE AND PREJUDICE Sometimes statements on Islam are based on genuine ignorance about or prejudice against the faith. People don't normally want to be ignorant or prejudiced about others. However, if anyone WANTS to be either or both then they're of course fully entitled to their choice, BUT they must not use that to insult or mock others. MAIN AIM OF CHRIST So what was Christ all about? Let's see what evidence we can find from what the man himself said: He came to establish a heavenly kingdom on the land also referred to as God's will or the Law "Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the KINGDOM OF HEAVEN is at hand." Matthew 4:17 And the twelve disciples too Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying “And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand” Matthew 10:7 "I am not come to destroy (the Law), but to FULFIL (THE LAW)" Matthew 5:17 "I seek not mine own will, but THE WILL OF THE FATHER which hath sent me." John 5:30 MAIN AIM OF ISLAM To see what Islam is all about we turn to the HQ: "O mankind! adore (serve) your Guardian-Lord, who created you and those who came before you, that ye may have the chance to learn righteousness" HQ 2:21 "fear not men, but fear me (your God), and sell not my signs (guidance) for a miserable price. If any do fail to judge by what God hath revealed, they are (become) Unbelievers." HQ 5:44 JIHAD So what about Jihad. The word is hyped up by the media, it simply means striving. It can be striving or making sacrifices for godliness as Jesus required "Whoever of you does not forsake all that he has cannot be My disciple." (Luke 14:33) or as HQ 9:41 puts it "Go ye forth, (whether equipped) lightly or heavily, and strive and struggle (do jihad), with your goods and your persons, in the cause of God. That is best for you, if ye (but) knew." When you oppose godliness then that is also jihad but it is bad jihad. For example HQ 31:15 mentions the case of parents who strive (do jihad) to stop their child from being strict about his monotheism. It gives the child exemption from the order to obey parents, but only on that issue. The child must continue his good relationship with his parents on all other issues "But if they (your parents) strive (do jihad) to make thee join in worship with Me things of which thou hast no knowledge, obey them not (on that issue); yet bear them company in this life with justice (and consideration)" DESTRUCTION OF INFIDELS From the point of view of the Meccans the early Muslims were the infidels. They were tortured, murdered ostracised, exiled to a valley and besieged all in a bid to destroy them. They did not fight back because there was no authority in the HQ for them to do so. This authority came much later in HQ 22:39 which said "To those against whom war is made, permission is (now) given (to fight), because they are wronged;- and verily, God is quite capable of giving them help" 70 CELESTIAL VIRGINS There is no reference to this, that I know of, in the HQ. However, purely from the linguistic point of view virgins could be male or female, of course.
  • You need to do some proper research on Islam and not just biased sources from TV or the web! I could flip the question back at you by saying, have you noticed that Christianity is all about the Crucifiction of their leader (Jesus) and Islam is about the resurection of all Humans and eventual fair judgement of all humans! Anyway Jihad in Islam: is struggling against all evil temptations (in an attempt to stay good) and not killing innocent people. Destruction of Infidels: is a notification & warning for all people to look through history and check what happens to the worst leaders/civilisations in times and decide if they want to end up like them. 70 Virgins: I have answered many times in answerbag (search them out) they are not likely to be for sex as reproduction should not exist in the afterlife, (and so they are not likely to have sex organs) and there is nothing that says that women dont receive virgins. (It is Humans' dirty minds that assumes that 'virgin' implies sex, and so the person must be female - the Koran doesnt even say they are human or female! the female tense is used for the word virgin because the vigins are explained to be beautiful and things of beauty are explained in the female tense when speaking Arabic. e.g. The moon is explained in the female tense but that does not mean that the koran says that the moon is a female).
  • Do you know that of your own knowledge (i.e. from reading the Koran and commentaries) or from talking to practicing Muslims, or are you just depending upon what you read in the media? Because the things you mention are a small part of the Koran but a large part of the media coverage. Much of the Koran covers living a decent and honourable life, in much the same way as people do everywhere. But that is not news, so the media don't cover it.
