  • I dont know. You should email the idea to mythbusters and see if they will try it out, lol
  • it will push it but not that much. for a sub with that many rms you should get an amp to match the rms of the sub and the right size of box and it will pound like no other.
  • Probably, but not much I think. I run a 800watt that pushes my 15" 1400watt
  • It will be more distorted becuase you are running the amp harder. If you want clean power you do not want to have to turn up the preamp to drive the power amp so that you get full volume. Having closer to the rated speaker wattage will allow you to use less gain and drive the power amp less allowing a cleaner sound. I used to have a sound reinforcement compnay and I over powered my speakers. If the speaker was rated at 500 watts I would put 1000 watts or more through it. I then would not have to turn the preamp section up and that would cause the system to not have as much feedback and a cleaner sound. The preamp did not drive the next stage into distortion and the power amp also was not driven into distortion. They throw a lot of BS at you when it comes to wattage. Unless you really understand what they mean it's hard to tell. For instance do you know what RMS is and means? Or for that matter what wattage is? Did you know wattage is a measure of heat, notice light bulbs are measured in wattage too.
  • No. The sub will win hands down.
  • at low low volumes it will work. i would be afraid to turn it up... even then if you have the balls to crank it there will be a lot of distortion as soon as you turn it up and something will blow... hopefully a fuse
  • Will it move? Yes, but not cleanly. It is pretty well known that you can blow a sub just as easily, if not easier, by underpowering it than by overpowering it. The lack of power to drive the woofer often causes the user to crank the gains, and turn on some sort of "bass boost" function on the deck. This causes tremendous distortion which can quickly bring about the demise of any speaker, be it subwoofer or just plain speaker. If your sub is a legitimate 1000 watt 15", then buy a 1000 watts RMS amplifier. This will drive your sub in it's necessary parameters.
