  • No one seems to want to tackle this one so I guess I will. Sex has been used to sell stuff for decades. Everything from automobiles to zamboni's have been marketed using techniques that are derived from the relationships between men and women. It is used in songs, and commercials and jingles and pop videos, and it has saturated our culture. If, in our culture, we can put so much emphasis on sex, how can we be shocked to learn that some take the social programming to extreme?
  • Its a visual sexual stimulant. That's the whole and pretty much sole point of it. In fact I think it serves a useful purpose in that I'd rather a sexually frustrated man looked at porn, posed by willing models, in the privacy of his own room than shinned up drain-pipes to get a glimpse of "real" women getting undressed. One of the more common uses for porn is as a sexual outlet for people who do not have sexual partners. Men in particular, tend to need some form of visual stimuli in order to get turned on enough to get the release of sexual climax. Many people use porn becaus eof the fantasy element- in porn we are able to explore aspects of our sexuality that real life doesn't permit- a video depicting a woman being captured and forced to have sex with a policeman who stops her for speeding for example. A woman might like the idea of this happening, but knows its unlikely, inadvisable, and probably doesn't even want it to happen in real life. Its just a fantasy. Porn helps her to enjoy it. Likewise a man might have secret desires to be violent and forceful with a woman- he doesn't want to hurt his wife, knowing she is not keen on the idea, and feels uncomfortable carrying out the forceful role for real- porn helps him to indulge the fantasy harmlessly, without having to take the emotional and physical risks involved were he to do it for real. We all have sexual fantasies- its normal. Porn is just the fantasy coming from inside the head on to video tape or paper. Its true, some people find it does nothing for them- but it doesn't automatically follow that everyone who looks at porn is a "sicko". Porn which employs the use of children or animals might be considered sick- that I can understand- but in what way is being turned on by looking at naked people having sex sick? It sounds fairly normal and healthy to me. Sex is a basic human desire and porn helps to fulfil that desire whether as a replacement for the real thing in times when we can't find a sex partner, or whether it is used to help enchance an existing relationship. If it is only for sickos, you'll find that the sickos outnumber everyone else in the world I'm afraid.
