To turn on my Philips 50p8341 I hold the power button in until I hear a crackling noise. Does not always work and seems to be getting worse. Picture and sound are very good once the set is on. Any ideas how to fix?

The Key board on the front is bad. This is a very common problem with this set. removing the front cover this is very easy to replace, IF only somebody sold these parts. NLA No Longer Available

Sounds like the power switch is shorting out.
You may need a new switch, I'm not sure if you want to attempt that.. working on TV's is extremely dangerous if you don't know what you are doing, eg: what to touch and what not to touch.. even by accident... you can electricute yourself.
