  • I've never seen anyone do that. But now that I've looked at the leaderboard I only see 1 in the top 25 who've done it, and it says semi-retired. I'm not inclined to care what they do...if they're here they're adding to the experience for all of us...if not, they're not. oh well.
  • For me, it's better to know someone is taking a break or retiring rather than to have them just disappear. I don't know who you specifically are talking about, but some ABers I know who are taking a break or retired have not logged in since they announced it.
  • It's for the people who care about them. It's also not illegal so I think there's nothing wrong with that.
  • Some people will log on to check their comments. They've retired or are on-leave from asking/answering questions, but there are a LOT of people here that make pretty damn good friends. They check those comment threads, and maybe respond, but that's about it. There are also those who DO go away for a while, and only the truly observant (or nosy) will notice that they've NOT been on. (Check their profile to see when they last logged on, check for comments, etc.) Nothing is wrong. Some people take the break for personal reasons (having a kid, surgery, GOTTA clean up the house, there's a deadline looming at work, etc.), and others because they are tired of dealing with the trolls, DRers, buttheads and jerks for so long, they need that break. Some will return, some won't. For those of us that have been here a while, we certainly hope they DO check in from time to time. They are missed.
  • If I did that, it would be because I was hoping that the site had changed more along the lines I would prefer to participate in. Sometimes, I wonder why I even bother as it is, but then I always get hooked all over again, each and every day.
  • Maybe they're trying to leave.
  • I think it's just to let their friends know they are still going to be around, checking their comments, but they aren't going to participating all the time.
  • I guess the best way to figure out what the point is, is to see how many fluff questions they asked... how level doesn't seem to guarantee high quality.
