  • Yes Bob Dylans...Like A Rolling Stone.
  • In Mott the Hoople's "All the Young Dudes", there's a line that goes "my brother's back at home with his Beatles and his Stones... never got it off on that revolution stuff!"
  • American Pie refers to Mick Jagger as "The jester".
  • In "ball of Confusion" by the Temptations, they say "the Beatles new record's a gas." I think the Mamas and Papas mention the Beatles in "I Dig Rock and Roll Music" There is a movie quote where a guy says, "Where ya been all yer lives? Listenin' to Mick Jagger records and disrespecting your county, I bet!"
  • Kris Kristoferson mentioned the Stones in his song, "If You Don't Like Hank Williams, You Can Kiss My Ass."
  • 'A Simple Desultory Philippic' performed by Simon & Garfunkel. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Simple_Desultory_Philippic_(Or_How_I_Was_Robert_McNamara'd_Into_Submission)

  • There is a song but I can't remember the particulars with a line that goes "...banging on the drums like Charlie Watts..."
  • This isn't exactly an answer to your question but there's a song by a Canadian band called "April Wine" called "I Like to Rock." At the end of the song two different guitarists play the opening licks from "Satisfaction" and "Day Tripper" at the same time and it blends amazingly well. Not a mention of both bands but a rare song that samples from both.
  • There are several mentioning the Beatles.I have been researching this subject for the final of UK Pop Music Brain which is in Wakefield on June 9th.So far I have found 11 UK hit singles that mention them. Here are a couple, I will tell you the rest after June 9th.'Life In A Northern Town' by Dream Academy and 'The Seeker' by The Who.
  • The jester is Bob Dylan. The last verse that talks about "Jack be nimble Jack be quick, jack flash sat on a candle stick, cause fire is the devils only friend" If you listen to the song it is basically in chronological order starting from the music of the 50s until the late 1960s. The players are the Beach Boys because they were in competition with the Beatles. The song referst to The jester on the sidelines in a cast. Dylan was hurt in a motercycle accident and was laid up for several weeks. Meanwhile the Beatles took the field.
  • In my previous post I forgot to mention that the last verse in America Pie talks about Mick Jagger and the 'Stones. The Jester is Bob Dylan.
  • What I liked about them was that they really didn't sing about themselves in those days unlike some of the artists today. There may have been some. There was a rumor about the death of Paul of the Beatles once and someone did a song about it. There was also rumored to be a track in one of their songs where they reinforced the rumor. Ironically, Paul and Ringo still live and John and George have died.
  • Joe Diffie -- Bigger than the Beatles
