The point is to use your experience to keep yourself from getting your hopes up too high too quickly for everything that comes your way. So dont be a die hard optimist, or else you will be constantly disappointed. But dont be a pessimist.. since then youll never really feel the excitement for something to come. Be a realist. Expect the best.. prepare for the worst. Good luck ~+~

I call myself an optimistic realist. I know everything is going to shit, but I still hope it doesn't.

if you don't raise them too high then you're not going to be sorely disappointed, i'll give you that. but if you don't raise them at all, how can you expect to ever move forward? . i'm definitely not an optimistic, but it's proven that pessimists don't usually live as long (psychology has the weirdest data)...i'd prefer not to be a pessimist. . i hope you're doing okay though, this question seems depressing

To quote the great philosopher, Homer Simpson, "Trying, the first step to failure."
-
We must raise our hopes in order to live contently, and they are only dashed because that is the inescapable cycle of life. Without hope, there could be no despair. Without despair, there would be no hope. Look at the Old Testament (Torah, more closely, as this refers to the Jews). They lived and prospered, and as they did, they ignored God and became complacent. When they did, God would strike them down by having others conquer them, which would cause them to realize what they had done by ignoring God and thinking everything was so good, they no longer needed him. Once we are content, or hopeful, we become careless and complacent, like God is on our side, or we're the best. At which point, the cycle simply breaks us down again to start over.

what else do we have in life besides wet dreams your faith?

well then. what's the point of living! If you have no hopes then you have no joy! that's what i think but don't question me on.
-
The motto of a true pessimist! I've always said...assume the absolute worst so no matter what happens you're either prepared for it or pleasantly surprised by it!
-
A pesimist will never get anywhere. Only those who try and try again will have success. You might try in some diffent ways until you find things that work. Failure is one of the first steps to learning. Be an optimist!!!

Raising your hopes and getting them dashed again is what grows you as a person. "2 steps forward - one step back." You're still moving forward, but at the right speed. Building up your hopes is always based on: - your capabilities, skills, knowledge - dreams, desires and goals You weigh up these attributes about yourself in the current situation you're finding yourself in, as a result you have an expectation - an hoped for outcome or resolution. If you get disappointed because the situation or you yourself did not meet the hoped for outcome, you miscalculated something about yourself, the situation you are in, or some external factor you missed to consider. Learn and do it better the next time round, until the next challenge repeats the cycle!

so at least, u have something to believe into and hope into, which brings u true happiness.
-
You never know till you try. Even if it only works out in your favor once or twice, it is worth it :)

What's left if you can't hope? Keeping one's hopes semi realistic gives you a better chance of them not being "dashed"--and sometimes, a little work on your part can help make those "hopes" turn into reality. Good Luck
