  • Doesn't the obituary list the service place and time? One does not need to be "invited" to a public funeral or viewing hours. I've never heard of a service for "immediate family only." Do they assume she had no friends or acquaintances, or people she helped in some way? I would go anyway, but that's me. I have no idea whether or not he will be "invited."
  • It seems a little odd you found out from the newspaper instead of a phone call from a family member. However, grandchildren are certainly what I would call "immediate family". If the paper lists a funeral home, you can contact them for details - or call a family member.
