  • My mum's an avid gardener and I asked her this the other day! She says "a weed is something that's growing where you don't want it to" translation- (mostly) native wildflowers that crop up everywhere and are a nightmare to get rid of. Some 'weeds' are popular garden shrubs or plants that just spread like crazy and have become a bit of a nuisance. One example of this is buddleia (in the UK anyway). I have 2 in my garden that I want there, but sometimes I find others coming up that I dig up and throw out.
  • The only difference between flowers and weeds is whether the gardener wants them there or not
  • Try pulling up a weed and you'll have a devil of a time. So, if it pulls out of the dirt easy it's a flower . . . Oops! Damn!
