No, for though they seem to contradict, they still exist in harmony. For those you love, absence should cause you to love them more, but for those that you don't like near as much, not seeing them for a while allows you to forget about them, and that is probably a good thing.

Clever question! Do you love her? ;-)

Our minds are as different as our finger prints - no two are alike. Those who feel that "familiarity breeds contempt", they are likely to experience the effect of the second phrase. Yet, there will be a few to whom the above two phrases do not have any meaning. What they feel is inexpressible by those two phrases.

Depends on who you are

Small absences make the heart grow fonder, long absences are out of sight out of mind. But everyone is different.

What's good for the goose is good for the gander? When the cat's away the mice will play? LOL I really think it depends on the relationship - if it's true love, it's absence makes the heart grow fonder. If not, then out of sight out of mind.

A true relationship involves a couple being together to experience each others emotions, touch, smell, etc. As our memories fade with time then short absences of a few days are 'heart grow fonder' and longer absences are 'Out of sight out of mind'. I believe anything else is self-delusion (eg long distance realtionships).
