I've seen two pictures now of the Pope wearing Gucci or Prada shoes. Is this appropriate when so many people in predominately Catholic countries are so poor?

He's the pope and therefore above the law so he can do anything he wants too.

Probably not. But, then again, not many would take the time to look at his footwear, and fewer stll would know that they were fancy name brand shoes. Besides, they were likely gifts, and although he is German and actually lives in Vatican City, both shoe companies are Italian and the Pope and Italy are like a soup and sandwich.

Given the opulence of the Vatican and the wealth held in the Vatican museums, did you think the Pope would wear tennis shoes? The Catholic Church is the wealthiest institution on earth and got that way, by tithing the poor.
