  • USA Standard and the Metric System may be a tad off in my reply - bear with me. 177cm is about 5'9 1/2 inches. when I was 16 I was about 5'10 inches or 177.8 cm Then I went into a growth spurt where in two years time I reached 6'2" or 187.96 cm. I am considered 'tall' - the average height of a male in the western world is about 5'10" (177.8 cm). Most likely you are taller than average for your age, and most likely you will top out slightly over 6' (around about 182 cm is 6 feet). That will be 'tall' for my generation (which is most likely the generation of your parents) for your generation is is more like 'normal' or closer to average since humans in the western world are getting taller with each passing generation.

No. Not only are people in the west not on balance getting taller with each generation, they certainly are not getting 2 inches taller with each generation. If they were, starting at a baseline of 1900, today's 20 year olds would average about 6'7 for males and 6'2 for females. The average height of the generations from X on through millenials in America, which includes the 16-year-old who asked this question, is going to be about 5'10 for males, and around 5'4 for females. People are not getting inexorably taller outside of relatively small and homogenous populations in Northern Europe and in nations where nutrition was typically poorer previously. Many Asian nations have gained in height dramatically in a short period of time, but that height increase has not continued much past a period of playing catch-up. As a 5'9 male at 16 you are somewhat tall for your age. You may continue to grow until you're 19, 20 or 21, or you may stay roughly the same height from here onward. With your father being about average and your mother being a few inches below average, you're likely to stay about where you are, but it's not at all inconceivable you could become taller.
  • An average height for woman (in the U.S) is 164 cm. For men, 177 cm. But the average height is different in different countries. Swedish people, for example, is taller than japanese people
