  • Probably because of all of the foreign places cruises visit on a daily basis. From infected water to people getting off the ships and drinking infected water and then coming back on the ship and spreading the virus. There are many reasons for this.
  • For the virus/sickness part of the question: 1. Alot of people in a small confined space. Anything contagious has very easy access to spread and spread quickly. 2. Rats and other disease carrying stowaways. 3. Any type of food poisoning or water contamination, everyone eats the same food and drinks the same water. As far as some type of chaos always seeming to take place, it's just that pretty much everytime something does happen on a cruiseship it's going to make headlines. There's a whole lot more chaos in cars on the road, than ships on the sea. Most of us are just accustomed to hearing or reading about car crashes fairly often so it's not as big of a deal to hear about another one. But because of the infrequency and the drama of being on the open sea and helpless against nature they are made out to be a much bigger deal. Similar to plane crashes in that respect, flying is the safest mode of transportation despite the accidents and terrorist acts that do occur. But plane crashes capture our imagination much more than a car crash so they stick out more in our minds.
  • The other answers are correct, concerning viruses and sickenesses. my answer deals with chaos. i have made this statement before. people on cruise ships are sitting ducks for terrorists. think about it. does the security for cruise ships, equal the securtiy for airplanes? Look at the past history, concerning cruise ships and their inability to control chaos onboard. striking a glacier is just one example. what would happen, if terrorists placed explosive devices on board, being ignited from a cellphone or a timer device? Choas? on a cruise ship, there is only one way out of an attack. that is down! I guess i will continue to take my chances on an airplane, train or automobile. i love traveling. but, cruise ships have just been taken off my list of preferred ways to travel.
  • With everryone packed in together, there is bound to be. And there is always that sod who refuses to give up there holiday when they are very ill, and insists that he has to ruin everyone elses holiday by giving it to everyone too. God I hate that guy
  • Same reason as everywhere else. No constant hand-washing. Not covering coughing, or staying separate when ill. They now quarantine [against their will in many cases] sick ppl. Also- improper temps and handling of the food-- how long is that stuff left out? Most of the crew does not have our hygene standards...
