Man, that is one super question first of all. There are basically three types of avatars. There are static avatars that never seem to change and then there are the users that change them like they change their clothes. The third one which I believe you and a few others fit into maintain a static avatar but may add a few details such as a holiday theme but stay within the frame work of the static avatar. You can determine moods and feelings as well as likes and interests or you can see a photo of someone which brings up another discussion. There also are two main types of avatars. There are photo avatars and then there are not. A photo says that the person wants to be seen and is comfortable with that. This may or may not be true for the user who does not. Either way they are projecting themselves through the choice of the avatars that they choose to use on AB as well as on other websites where users can choose what avatar they want.

Not too often, but it does often catch interest in a way that the person behind it may or may not intend for it to do.

There are times when an avatar can tell a lot about a person and there are times when an avatar really doesn't tell a lot about a person. I mean, there's one forum where I have a "Pepsi" avatar. I like it, and I haven't changed it. I rarely even drink Pepsi.

I think if you tried you could find something out about a person but surely not a lot. I think you can tell more by their mannerism through their post more then anything. As to how they truly are.

According to what I have read about avatars, it is supposed to give others a clue on how the person is. But unfortunately it does not happen. Regards.

I don't think so. If it's a true photo of them you can see if they have a pretty face but that's about it; but if it's just a cartoon or something...I don't think so. Currently, my avatar is the comic Nancy, because that's my name. But that's all I have in common with the comic, I don't look a bit like her, LOL!

Somewhat. Perhaps you get to see what the owner looks like. Other times you get to see what the owner wants to project as an image to others, given the limitation of 64 pixels wide. Other times you see what the owner would like to project as a pleasant view. As a dirty old man, I am intrigued by the women showing images of beauty. Many more possibilities.
