  • My brother worked in a carnival for nearly 25 years before he retired on Social Security. The reason they get a bad rap (not wrap) is because in the old days, many carnival workers used to sneak out into the crowd, or the town and pick pockets, or steal things while the homeowners were at the carnival. They were also prone to take their pay and go into town and get drunk then into fights with the town people. Many times the carnival workers were not as careful about their personal appearance or grooming. When people come into town and look like bums and act like crooks, they leave a bad reputation for everyone else. No reputable carnival owner puts up with that kind of behavior now, because it hurts their business.
