To let go of a position, point of view, and more recently a virtue.
Two teams, one has the flag that the other is trying to capture. The latter team corners the flag holder and encourages him/her to "give it up"..(the flag).
Youn girl on a date recieves unwelcome advances, her partner urges her to "give it up"(virtue).
Two people arguing. One is obviously losing and makes no sense. The opponent urges "give it up"..(trying to press a point of view).
It originated in the streets, it means you're getting robbed.

This phrase originated Before Christ, "give it up" refers to letting go of something and turning it over to God
It means: "Approach another woman, guy!" It originated in '82 at a jazz club in New Orleans. I was there! ;-)
