the only Robert I know goes by Bob.

bert
-
I will call him what he goes by. :)
-
Not if he doesn't like it.
-
My Uncle Robert. I've always called him Uncle Rob
-
Well, it depends how he introduces himself. ;)
-
Hubby answers to Bob and Robert most of the time, but his Dad calls him Bobby. My Dad went by Bert.
-
Whatever he prefers is what I'll call him.

I would never assign someone a name they did not ask for. I remember someone telling me once that she hated when people did that. If someone tells me their name is Robert, then I will call them Robert. If they wanted to be called Bob, they would say so.
-
No ... not automatically ... I call him Robert until he says, "call me ...(whatever)" ...
-
my boyfriends name is roberto. sometimes his dad calls him robert. he prefers to be called rob though.

Usually, I am the one who lengthens the name back to it's original form. But until I am comfortable enough with the person to do that I am very careful to call them the name they introduced themselves to me as. We have a friend that everyone calls Popeye (a childhood nickname) I mean EVERYONE calls him Popeye. For some strange reason, when we met, he introduced himself to me as Kevin. I am the only one who calls him that and people who have known him for years ask: 'Kevin who?'
-
I don't, I like the long formal names, like Robert, Nicholas, Vincent, Patrick, etc. The only exception is James, I like Jimmy much better.
-
or do you call him bobert?
-
Depends how the person is instrduced to me because that's what they will be to me forever. If I hear people calling him by various forms of the name I will ask what he prefers to be called. I would never just assume they want their name shortened.
