  • Hmm... that's a tough question from a theoretical standpoint. If we consider Alma's comparison of the word to a seed, then I think we get an idea of the difficulties, but still I don't think we come to an exact conclusion. Alma's discourse describes faith in terms that are very scientific, but it is perhaps not altogether certain that the correspondence with scientific knowledge is 100% exact. That is to say, scientific knowledge can never reach 100% certainty and it progresses by definite statistical laws. Faith is similarly gained through trial and experience, but it may not be bound to the statistical rules the science is bound to. For example, a person with wonderful experiences can put aside his faith. Similarly, it would seem that there are people who believe faster than experience would scientifically dictate is reasonable, per the known statistical rules used to gauge reasonableness. Nevertheless Alma speaks of absolute certainty as being a very hard state to obtain. On the other hand, he does seem to speak of it as being an obtainable state. All in all, I'm not sure if it is possible for any mortal to attain until absolute certainty in this life, but I believe is is likely attainable, if not now, then in the eternities. Fantastic question. I have a working knowledge of God's existence, but not a perfect knowledge. That may sound rather lame to some, but I say it in the same spirit that I might say that we have a working knowledge of the existence of the electron, while not a perfect knowledge.
  • i'm not doubting he's there. but who he is and what he does, that's for me to decide for myself
  • You know, there are so many strong believers in God but it is biblical that such a faithful life would move mountains. I haven't seen any mountains moving lately, have you? Now, the second part of your question perhaps is where the majority of the believers lay. If you believe in God and your goal is to achieve righteousness, then you will always be striving to be more like Christ. Does that make sense? It's a lifelong process:)
  • It depends on your own hunger for truth. How hungry are you?
  • I'm a 100 percent believer. What do I have to lose?
