Has anyone heard the term "Ugly American"? To what does it refer? If everyone loved us before Iraq why was this term coined, etc.?

    There was a 1958 political novel titled "The Ugly American" about the battle against communism in southeast Asia. The term has come to refer to the way Americans behave -- or are perceived to behave -- as loud and arrogant when traveling abroad.

    i have heard it but don't know of its origin.
    but i do know that americans weren't loved before Iraq
