cut the end it's picked from with a knife and peel it by hand.

crush it

Put it in a plastic bag then bash it gently. It peels really easily after that and most of the skin is in the bag, ready to be thrown away.

I just tap it with the side of my knife so the peel comes off very easy.

Depends what shape will work the best. If I just want some kind of garlic flavor in my dish, I will just quickly cut off the root end if it's tough and not peel it. I will grate it on my microplane, even with the peel on it. Works terrific and gets the most perfect garlic flavor. I would never be without my microplane:-) If I want whole cloves I will roll it in this rubber flexi tube.

Cut the end off, then pull off the skin. then crush with the side of the knife and chop to whichever size I need. My favorite though is to roast the whole bulb and squeeze the garlic out.
-
I cut the hard attatchment point off and give it a slight 'crush' with the side of the knife, just enough to loosen the skin.
-
i crush it either with a knife or my hand.

Roll it till the skin comes loose, then peel it off. If I want crushed or minced garlic, I use the garlic press and don't peel it at all.
-
I crush it lightly with the side of my knife and slip the skin off.
