  • She'll get stuck with a much bigger bill... That was a STUPID move, especially because even after they repo, you typically have some time left to catch up....
  • They might sue her if they find out about it, which most likely they would. As of what will they do, they will get some auto mechanic or some lifter to lift it, so it won't be much of a big deal to take the car with them.
  • They will just tow it if they can't start it. I have a feeling that she's going to be in even bigger trouble than she apparently already is.
  • I hope she goes to jail....your sister is a dumbass!
  • Lesson to be learned here: Do not buy cars or homes you cannot afford and when the loan goes sour, it ain't the job of the Government to bail you out of your own bad decisions. Get a used car next time, I can promise you it won't be needing $20,000 worth of repairs and you will have about $18,000 in your pocket. By the way, your sister is due for a nice surprise after they tow it away.
  • i hope she does, but she won't.
  • you didn't say what state she lives in but generally speaking she has deliberately caused damage to another's property with a value over a certain dollar value. whether or not your sister goes to jail just depends on how the car guys feel-they would certainly rather have their money. but what in the world was she thinking? rendering the car undrivable wasn't going to help her and it was hurting someone else (and her). Seriously, what was on her mind?
  • The car will be towed, they won't discover it won't start until they get it back to the shop. Since it wasn't legally hers with a clear title, she can be charged with destruction of property. I hope she learns something from this... it sounds like she has a LOT of learning to do.
  • Ouch. That move is going to cost her dearly. She wont likely go to jail but they will sell it for much less at auction and she will be liable for the difference. A vehicle that has to be pushed through the auction line generally does not draw much money or interest. I have been to many and see many repos go through. The best thing to do if a vehicle is to be repossessed is to cooperate no matter how much it hurts. Remember banks are in the banking business, not the car business. They do not want to repo cars but often have no choice. Tell her not to take it personal and I wish her all the best. And no I do not work in the banking industry, Used to work in the car biz.
  • The car is still her property, until they come to take it away. Just as if she had a car with a bum engine or that she had gone at with a baseball bat be repo'ed she would not be responisble for the charges to fix the engine or remove the dents, I do not think that she will be liable for the damage she infliced on it. Probably not the smartest move, though, as the Repo guy really doesn't want you to know when he is coming, so you can not hide. I would not be surprised if the car sat there busted for another week.
  • Let me get this straight...she knew that the car would be re-sold and she would be responsible for the balance, so she devalued the car to increase the amount she will have to pay? Are you serious? If she is that seriously impaired she should never be let out alone again. I understand that she is your sister and that you love her, but please pay attention to this situation and learn what not to do. She is an example of idiocy in action.
  • if your sister put sugar and syrup in the tank herself then she will be sued, she can go to jail, or pay high fines or both good luck.
  • Well, since the car technically doesn't belong to her, (it belongs to the bank who financed it and are now repossessing it), and she has willfully and maliciously damaged someone else's property, I'd have to say that she is in for a hard time. What on earth was she thinking?????
  • Why would she do that? She's the one who didn't make her payments, not the bank? Why do you blame them for taking back the car? Even if she is having a hard time financially, it's not the bank's fault. She damaged property that didn't belong to her. They may attempt to sue her in court for the damage to the car and the repairs. Now, instead of just letting it go she may be subject to a lawsuit. That was very foolish. I understand if you can't pay your bills, sometimes that happens. But you must not blame other people like you're a victim. If you let someone live in your home and agree on rent and he doesn't pay, don't you ask him to leave? Wouldn't you be mad if he trashed your house before leaving? Good luck to you and your sister. Her credit is gonna be trashed for a long time to come now.
