You need to read more of the book. Most books take about the first 10-20% of the total pages or more before they become interesting or entertaining. You didn't even get past the introduction. Or copyright information pages. Pick it back up and try again. Perhaps this question should be rephrased "Have you ever bought a book that you thought might be good, sat down to read it and AND AFTER YOU FINISHED IT, thrown it away in disgust? What was it?"

The Catcher in the Rye. Everyone raved to me about this book, and I generally like reading, so I decided to give it a try. But when I started reading, I was so bored by it I had to put it down.

well I didn't throw it away .. but it took me an uber-long time to finish it .. (I'm not a quitter) .. Gerald's Game, by Stephen King
-
The Red Pony.... that book is so dumb!

Couldn't tell you the name, and I didn't buy it myself (my wife had borrowed it from someone), but the author was Laurell K. Hamilton.

A few years ago, I tried to read "Infinite Jest" by David Foster Wallace, because he was the new "hip" author and his book was all the rage. I struggled through about a third of the book, kept getting thrown off by having to read through the 100+ pages of endnotes to have even the slightest clue what was going on, and then gave up. When I moved out of that house, I left the book there for the next poor bastard who felt like giving it a try.

As a lifelong comic reader.. Ive had that happen more often than with actual books. Of the books I have read.. only one I can think of bored me to tears and I gave up after not being able to get past the first few pages... "The Portrait of the artist as a young man". I can't even tell you who the author is...

Twilight... can't believe I got talked into buying it.

Since I'm OCD, I have made a rule for myself that I have to finish a book, even if I don't like (particularly if it's a classic). So if I quit after 5 pages, that's a pretty bad sign.

For starters, the book was given to me for free for attending a convention. Like many other answers, I can't even remember the name of the book. The story wasn't going anywhere.
