    HDTV is High Definition TV. EDTV is Enhanced Definition TV. Both process a digital signal. HDTV will show a high definition signal when available whereas a EDTV will not. EDTV is just marketing "bologny". Spend your money on a HDTV, but to get the full potential you must upgrade your cable or satellite system to HD. It is worth it. I am sure there will be lots of answers describing pixels, lines of resolution, interlace and progressive scans, but I fiqure you wanted a simple answer to make the best purchasing decision.
