It concerns things that do not normally occur. I think we are fascinated, amazed or shocked at events that are out of the ordinary, or supernatural.

Simply that it is para-normal. We all have plenty of normality - we want to find out about the non-normal. We hope for the best and fear for the worst.

The search for the unknown. The stories help bring out desire to look harder. Any time something happens that we can not recreate makes it exciting.

The belief that you may have some power or control over fate and over the events that are to come or at least the believe that you might have the ability to foresee those things. Can you imagine how many people would be winning the lottery. Lotteries would not exist because enough people would have the ability to know what number or numbers are going to win and the runners of the contest would not make money or lose money.
