I think that both things can be used. I believe that we can use US laws as well as Sharia Laws. It would just force muslims to live to a higher standard since they could be punished 2 times for the same crime. I am muslim and willing to do it.

It should NOT be accepted because one shouldn't base the law on bronze age texts that are highly misogynistic. Laws should be made only by considering ethics and psichology. The founding fathers wanted a secular government. A theocracy is as bad as a dictatorship. This is not about respect or disrespect towards Islam. This is about fundamental human rights. Why should people follow those laws that have no solid foundation? They even contradict modern laws. Introducing sharia law in the US is one of the worst things one could possibly do.

But aren't you both American? Why should Spengo have to move to another country if he has different ideas from you? Why couldn't you move? Do you see what I'm getting at? I just think that calm rational talking about these matters is a better way to start dealing with the issues, rather than immediately getting hot under the collar and judging each others religions. I'll be the first to admit, I don't know nearly enough about Islam or Sharia Law. What I have heard about Sharia Law sounds pretty awful. But it can't be all bad if a peaceful people want to adopt it. Shouldn't you at least hear these views out? You say you studied Islam and nearly converted to it? Surely that was because you saw some good in it? Why jump to get so angry now when someone with these beliefs merely expresses their views? Opinions won't hurt you. Sorry, this was meant to be a comment on Spengo's answer.

spengo...been through this 10000's of times..if muslims claim the quran is the end all book, if muslims claim that it is the only place to get islamic law..then fine..honor killings are not in the quran that is agreed..i have read quran and it is not in there...however I have read many hadiths saying that they are condoned...now some muslims will say that some hadith are not authentic, but others will argue that they are..again maybe time for a reformation

I have already studied his life...everything from his first going to work for his first wife, marrying her...to when he claimed to hear the voice of gabriel the first time..all the way to his death...i have read all...i am not one of the ignorant masses..studying islam is what turned me into a born again christian..i found much of what i read disturbing..if you disagree that is your choice....anyway..i just posted i ancient religions...asking a question, that i have already answered...if you found out tomorrow your religion was wrong, what religion would you turn to..please go there and answer..i am very curious..

Because it is incompatable with the separation of church and state contained in our constitution. It also is biased in favor of Muslims. This is also incompatible with the freedoms guaranteed to our constitution. Also several parts of sharia are specific to the practice of Islam. Since most of us here do not believe in Islam i see no reason why we need to adhere to religious doctrine we do not agree with. There are plenty of countries that do follow sharia. You may go there if you wish.

Simply because The US Constitution is identical to God's Laws, which is the True Sharia Law--The Quran, the Bible, and Torah. But if you mean Sharia Laws that exist in other Books (Shia hadiths or Suni Hadiths or Jews and Christians Men Books), then you are asking for Laws that are against The True God's Sharia Laws.

Easy for me - It should not be accepted because the U.S. is supposed to be a secular country. Laws in a secular country should be distinct from religious laws. Of course... that assumes the U.S. is as secular as it claims, which I do not believe it is.

I just found this question. I know it's been here awhile but feel compelled to answer. I don t believe the U.S. nor ANY country should be held captive by religious law...any religious law. I would object to and fight against any religion that would hijack the constitution of the U.S. Religion was incorporated into the British Constitution and that is one of the reasons our country fought for its independence. I believe that religion ruins everything. It ruined the British Commonwealth, India, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia any country that bases it's laws on some religious artifact. Laws should be used to restrict acts and behaviours that are dangerous to a civil society, not control minds. That was what caused the downfall of communism. They actually tried to control people's thinking. That is what is happening now in North Korea and Saudi Arabia. I will not be held captive by a priest, pope, or mullah.
