The bible condemns anything that isnt about singing praises to a malicious, genocidal, hating egotistical maniac.
you take a step left: GOING TO HELL
take a step right: GOING TO HELL
blow your nose(either one ;) ): GOING TO HELL
Murder thousands of innocent men, women, and children in the name of the "lord": go to heaven.

Because 2000 year ago, there was no effective contraception, and a woman who found herself pregnant outside marriage would have no husband to support her bringing up the child, therefore would be poor and child would be poor and could starve. Also there was no way to tell paternity then, so a woman should only ever sleep with one man.

It's a case of rules which were quite sensible thousands of years ago being applied today when they are not as sensible.

It's kind of what the Bible is about...condemning everything and anything. Technically we shouldn't even be going to the bathroom if you read that thing.

Polygamy is described in many places in the Bible and it does not look like it would be condemned. (Okay, technically some of it took place with marriage).

Of course, you could find places which condemn this, but this does not apply to the Bible as a whole, which is more an heterogeneous collection of very different books.

The attitude to adultery bases mainly on the ethics of the people who wrote those texts, which happened many centuries ago.

This was also due to men having sex with sheep....thats where syphlis came from...they did not want that spread...plus there was all kinds of sex and orgies in the stories of the Bible....The Biblical perspective wanted sexual relations kept in the marriage due to it being for procreation....not feeling good...what???

Because it goes outside the desing of one flesh. Before conception sex meant babies and no man would deal with a woman who had a baby out of wedlock. Today even thought there concetpion there is still alot of problems and we see it every day. God had a design for man and when we venture outside that design that when we have problems.

This is a very good question. Many people have ask this question through the years.

According to the manual on marriage, the Holy Bible, marriage was instituted by God to be an institution of leaving and cleaving. A single male or female are to leave their single status and cleave to their mate of the opposite sex in the vowed institution of marriage becoming one flesh. They are, after committing to each other with vows in marriage, now in a one flesh union. They have therefore eliminated all others from the romantic, intimate, sexual etc.. aspects of their life. (According to the Bible sexual activity is for males and females who are married to an opposite sex person in marriage). All types of sexual relations outside of opposite sex marriage is sin according to the manual on sex and marriage, The Holy Bible.

    (Reference Scriptures: Genesis 2:20-24; Romans 1:22-32; I Corinthians 7:2-7; Ephesians 5:22-32)
God knows what is best for us! After all, he made us and he gives us free choice!
To those who believe the Holy Scriptures, "God said it, I believe it and that settles it".
