I have never served and I don't support the war (or did I support the VietNam war)..BUT I have and always will support the troops 100%... now I will give these idiots both barrels when I hear or see them putting crap on these brave men/women

Many DO support the troops if they DON'T support the war. There's a major difference in their eyes. Personally, I support both. (If we left Iraq now, Al Quaeda would take over, killing anyone who confronted them, and they'd have a large base of operations in the Middle-East, then, instead of hiding in caves. Iran would give them nuclear weapons, Hezbola(sp?) would help, and we'd (the whole world) would be in a world of hurt.)

Serving in the Armed Forces is only one of many ways the American people serve their country. Other ways include paying our fair share of taxes, voting in elections, political service, civil service, volunteering in many civic capacities such as the USO, and financial support of various charities and service organizations. It's not really fair to say people have never served their country, so don't deserve to state a preference of any US action. We all serve to the best of our ability.

Nobody is likely to say they don't "support" the troops. Many are likely to say they don't support the war. But for quite a few years now our troops are volunteers and knew what they were getting into when they joined the military. I support the idea that if the USA is going to put military personnel in harms way the country has an obligation to provide the best equipment and facilities that are available. I support this concept. I do not support the war. I do not support our country continuing to spend billions of dollars for operations that are doing nothing for us. The trouble is, the idea of supporting our troops too often morfs into supporting the war. That I object to.

In the worst of times, I never heard anyone negate what our soldiers did. I know the Viet Nam soldiers didn't come home heroes, but I personally never heard anyone make derogertory comments about them. WE ALL SUPPORT THE TROOPS.

Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel. It's another one of those Republican tactics to try and muddy the waters of real patriotism. They wrap themselves in the flag in an effort to appear 'patriotic' and thus immune to criticism.
-
Its because they see that the military is no longer serving our country, but instead the interests of those with the most power.

Are you making the assumption that the only way to "serve your country" is in the military?
