it acts as a pathway for information to cross over between the two ceribral hemispheres.. i think
The function is to connect the left and right side of brain (hemisphere)
The two hemispheres are physically separate and their only connection is through the corpus callosum, a thick white band of nerves deep within the brain. It allows the two hemispheres to communicate and coordinate their activities.
The corpus callosum is like a bridge that connects the two hemispheres of the brain. It is a band of fibers that allows millions of messages a day to cross between the left and right hemispheres. My daughter has Partial Agenesis of the Corpus Callosum, so she is partially missing her corpus callosum. This causes a lot of problems. For instance, she has strabismus/lazy eyes, so stereopis/depth perception, fine and gross motor skill delays, etc... The two hemispheres of her brain don't work together quite right because of a delay in the messages going back and forth between the two hemispheres of her brain.
it connects the two sides of your brain. you can live with it severed, though... it is called "split brian syndrome". Many creepy experiments were done with that.
