  • The corpus callosum is like a bridge that connects the two hemispheres of the brain. It is a band of fibers that allows millions of messages a day to cross between the left and right hemispheres. My daughter has Partial Agenesis of the Corpus Callosum, so she is partially missing her corpus callosum. This causes a lot of problems. For instance, she has strabismus/lazy eyes, so stereopis/depth perception, fine and gross motor skill delays, etc... The two hemispheres of her brain don't work together quite right because of a delay in the messages going back and forth between the two hemispheres of her brain.
  • The function is to connect the left and right side of brain (hemisphere) The two hemispheres are physically separate and their only connection is through the corpus callosum, a thick white band of nerves deep within the brain. It allows the two hemispheres to communicate and coordinate their activities.
