Because of its spiritual writings and teachings.

not a christian but my family is. personally i hold the value because even though i think it's been mixed up again and again at one point in time the prophets who originally wrote those words had a special meaning that they wanted to give to everyone

I don't! Readers Digest is way more entertaining to read! The characters in the Bible are poorly developed, and the stories, while being mildly informitive, are full of plot holes! And Readers Digest is new and different every month, the Bible is always the same! I say we replace he Bible with Readers Digest, because as we all know, Laughter is the best medicine!

I LOVE Reader's Digest! I very rarely open my bible (maybe once ever several years or so) but I read Reader's Digest from cover to cover every month!
-
I value toilet paper more than Reader's Digest... so of course a book with at least some moral and spiritual material in it for me to contemplate would get more respect from me.

Yes it was written by humans. What wasn't? Yes it has some errors. Is the RD infallible? The Bible is the story of God pursuing his creation. No other book has had such an impact on our planet. It has to be valued.
-
hmmm because I believe it is the word of God

I know that the Bible was written by different people, but I do not believe that it has any contradictions in it. I believe that people said that about the Bible and passed it around and other people copied the saying without checking the Bible out for themselves. I do value it as more than Reader's Digest because, deep down, I really do believe it is the word of God. Am I not supposed to? My bad.

I realised the Bible was written by man and each write in their own way. Take Matthew , very intelligent, Luke also a dr. But I also know EVERY SINGLE ONE of them had THE HOLY SPIRIT ..GOD'S HELP... did you know that GOD wrote the 10 Commandments on the tablets HIMSELF? but also , PEOPLE do not understand that we are not under the Jewish laws anymore..those were CAST OUT with the DEATH of Christ...learn from OLD<LIVE by NEW...

I read the Bible often, and have been a subscriber to Reader's Digest for four years or so. Gotta love that All In a Days Work. "Waaaah!! Dave drank the last of the water from the cooler, and I had to replace the big bottle that sits atop. Now, I got a big water blotch on my shirt right before the big meeting!! Dave let me borrow his shirt, but it didn't match my tie and socks. Waaah! Worst meeting ever!!"

Different people but one spiritual understanding. The contradictions come from a man's natural understanding, not given the ability by God to compare spiritual things with spiritual. 1Co 2:13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.

I dont. My last use for a bible was to light a fine pre-embargo cuban cigar. i wouldnt do that with a readers digest
-
Not a fair comparison really, because one forms the basis of two religions while the other one doesn't form tha basis of any religion. That reason would also be why one would be valued (in the sense of respect) more than the other.

An aside: There's a ringtone ad on the screen right now next to this question about valuing The Bible. Then it struck me: Whaddabout Bible ring tones?!? Instead of an old rock tune alerting you to an incoming call, you'd hear: "And Samson begat Delilah, and Delilah begat breakfast, etc." Should be a big potential market, no?

I have realised the bible was written by man, for man, do I value it any more, no.

One of the things which captured my attention during the different Church services I used to attend to when I was a teenager, was the emphasis these "Ministers" place upon discouraging their flock of gullibles to present questions that could be perceived as-or could in fact be-a challenge to any article of faith belonging to this doctrine. To that end, subliminal suggestions of guilt and subtle imposition of fear are reliable tools employed. Perpetuating a permanent dependency on unsubstantial legends--perplexing, confusing and even spooky theologians concepts which, of course, shed no meaningful light on the understanding of the "Divine Reality" we call GOD. Clauding their God given ability to reason and to intelligibly discern what is absurd and what is not. The gullible is then persuaded to have "BLIND FAITH"--no matter how much contradiction there are in the Bible. Faith in a static and absurd religious dogma that has rigidly limited and handicapped the progress of many seekers in their quest for a more profound spiritual attainment they deem of supreme value. Held spellbound by dogmatism. If something is incoherent and, by all measure, irrational, and has no foundation on verifiable [facts] but by "FAITH" we accept it anyway as being true, that is simply called "SELF-DECEPTION". I do, of course, acknowledge that my position in regard to the question of the Bible being the book of final authority, could be perceived as prejudicial and perhaps even rancid to some. For it is very difficult, in a world so absorved in a false perception of reality and comfortable falsehood, to present [verifiable facts] that could shatter to its very foundation the faith of many, without someone being offended by. So they hold on to that book. no matter what, because they've been made to "believe" that they will "burn in hell" for rejecting it or even question its content.
