*****SPOILERS****** I thought the first hour os so of the film (never read the book) was good bordering on great - but the last part of it; from about the time of his arrest - becomes increasingly stupid and insulting to the intelligence of the audience. More than a mere suspension of disbelief the end asked for more of a gangland-execution of disbeleif. Pity too because the ending destroyed what had been an excellent film. Bliss

I loved both the book and the movie!

I have read the book and seen the movie. I have to say I preferred the book, but the actor who played the lead role in the film was pretty good. I think it is a very interesting concept. I once read a satire on Perfume involving someone who wanted to become the world's best chef and ended up making body parts into pies, etc. I had to stop reading it after a couple of paragraphs, cos if you thought Perfume was gruesome, this really made my stomach turn. Can't remember the name, though.

I have not seen the movie yet, but I read the book, in original German. It is a very good book, in my opinion. But not a children book.

I read the book maybe 12 years ago, I thought it was fantastic. I saw the movie a month ago and was pleasantly surprised that it captured the spirit of the novel pretty well. I think the novel truly is a work of art, and very original in concept.

I read the book about ten years ago and saw the film recently. The descriptions of the smells in the book are just amazing. He definately has a refined sense of description. I loved the book. The film was okay but it could not beat the book which was fabulous.

I saw the movie last year. They did an excellent job of conveying Grenouille's sense of smell through the stunning visuals. I got the DVD because Alan Rickman is in it, and he was great, but I was particularly impressed by Ben Whishaw, who was perfect for the role of Jean-Baptiste Grenouille. Dustin Hoffman was fantastic as well. And, well, Rachel Hurd-Wood did a lovely job of having gorgeous red hair that visually enhanced every scene she was in. I have not read the book, so I don't know how the movie compares, but the movie is excellent, and yes, I'd call it a work of art.
