  • No honestly there isn't a quota at all. Many people have joked about it, many which were caught and given a ticket to. but no there isn't any such quota to follow.
  • Nope. But, like every other job, they are evaluated on their performance. There is a management mantra that states: People do what is inspected, not expected. At yearly evaluations, every cop wants to say "See what I have done to make the streets safer?" and tickets are one way to do that.
  • In 42 years of law enforcement, i have never been told i had to have a quota of traffic citations. I do not have to be told. i see, stop, warn and issue at least five in an 8 hour period. More are issued, if i work special assignment on traffic enforcement. Some days, the domestic violence calls take all the time and not one traffic citation is issued. common sense here tells you why. No quotas here.
  • Each Department may be a little different and the answer to your question is NO. They do not, Having a Quota would be illegal so they do not have them That is not to say that they don't have "Goals". Failing to meet your goal can affect your chances of being promoted, getting raises, and generally being well thought of by your superiors. Being well thought of by your superiors is generally considered a good thing. Like I said, not all departments have them but I know for a fact that some do have goals. I have a friend who was a cop in a small town. The mayor got really mad at him for directing traffic at the elementary school when he could have been on the 4lane giving tickets. He was fired, " in a separate and unrelated inncident". Got to look out for those "separate and unrelated inncidents".
  • Nope. Thats not true at all. I have heard it all my life and only recently learned it was false.
  • Yes there is a quota.I personally knew a cop and was told it was so.I was stopped once for no seatbelt and the cop told me truthfully that he did not stop me because he felt it was unsafe for me ,but he had to fill a quota.
  • I would care MORE about just being a "good", upstanding citizen. Then your question would become terribly unimportant to you!
  • the way some idiots drive i wish i was a cop i would write them non stop.
  • 44 years as a police officer and no one has ever told me i had to write so many tickets a day or month. i had no quota. But, this does not apply to other police departments, especially smalltown police departments where the citation revenue is counted on. This does not happen in most Metro Police Depts. I average about 4-5 citations a day. I make a lot of trf. stops, but i also give a lot of warnings.
