Ask them why the new and old Testaments are not sufficient. Ask them how they know God exists. Then tell them about the invisible, pink unicorns. Use the exact same argument they use about why god exists to explain why the invisible, pink unicorns exist. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Invisible_Pink_Unicorn

I wouldn't debate a mormon missionary. Their doctrine is sound. Usually mormon missionaries won't debate because they know contention is of the devil and the spirit of the lord won't reside where their is contention. And Since most of them have spent their life savings and two years walking door to door looking for the humble of heart they don't want to waste their time debating with the Prideful. However if you're really lucky you could run into a mormon missionary whose had a real bad day. Maybe he's had one too many oranges thrown at him or had one too many drivers try to run him off the road. Maybe he's had one to many people telling him he's going to hell and that he's not a Christian. Maybe he's missing his family and high school sweet heart who he hasn't seen in two years and is wondering if this is all worth bringing one or two people closer to their savior Jesus Christ. Maybe if your lucky This missionary this day will knock on your door and you will get your debate and you will have contention on your doorstep when you could have had a prayer in your home and The Spirit of the Lord residing in your home. Either way the the work shall go forward and the elite shall be gathered from the four corners of the earth.

That would depend very much on what you believe?

In response to travisb, if a Mormon came to my home and refused to debate, then I would simply show them the door. I think it's quite rude and hypocritical to go in to a person's home, start blabbering about your religious beliefs and then refuse to listen to the person's own beliefs. You also say that you wouldn't debate their beliefs because their doctrine is sound. That sounds like you are a Mormon. The Book of Mormon has more holes in it than Swiss cheese. I have a few questions that I feel a person can ask them: 1.) If it is the true Church, then why are changes constantly being made to the "Doctrine"? The most important is the addition of allowing dark-skinned people to hold the priesthood. If it were the true Church, then I believe that "God" would have included them in the priesthood from the beginning. 2.) Women cannot hold the priesthood. So you mean to tell me that women are lesser than men. No wait, let me rephrase the excuse I was given when I asked this question. They stated that everyone has their place according to what God wants. Women are no lesser, they simply have their rolls. I see that as a copout excuse. Why does God only want to allow men to give blessings and baptize people? 3.) Tea is bad. If tea is so bad, then why are there numerous medical studies that point to the health benefits of tea? Green tea is full of antioxidants and has numerous health benefits. I guess eventually the Church will change their doctrine to reflect something to say tea is not as bad through a "revelation." 4.) Ask them about Joseph Smith being an adulterer, having intercourse with the wives of the men he sent out as missionaries. 5.) Tom mentioned about the moon. That is true. I didn't go to some antiMormon site. I looked it up on BYU's Mormon Publication Library: http://contentdm.lib.byu.edu/cdm4/document.php?CISOROOT=/YWJ&CISOPTR=11790&REC=6 You can read for yourself in Volume 3, pages 263-264. Joseph Smith actually thought people lived on the moon. Normally I would say that lots of sci-fi fans believed (or wanted to believe) this, but Joseph Smith tried to pass this statement off as fact based upon is "divine" abilities. For those that don't feel like going to that website, I have uploaded the images of the article that I took using Paint Shop Pro. I took screenshots of the PDF file.

No such thing, in my experience.

Why would you want to debate with the mormon missionaries if you don't know enough about the Church to know what to debate about? How have you come the conclusion that you need to debate with them? That just doesn't make sense to me. In Proverbs 18:7, we read: "A fool’s lips enter into contention, and his mouth calleth for strokes." Titus 3:9 says, "9 But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain." I could go on and quote more, but I think I have proved my point. Contention is of the devil, and not of God.

Not a good idea. Just say "no" and walk away from them. They are expertly trained in mind control techniques to brainwash brains at a fast pace. My 2 cents.

I don't know about the mormons in your neck of the woods but I've found mormon missionaries to be more polite than the majority of my (former) fellow church members and it's staff. Visits with the mormon missionaries have all been just that: visits. No preaching or teaching, no need for any debates. They've even offered to help do yard work while still in their dress pants and shoes.

If our Heavenly Father was once a mortal (other than represented in Jesus Christ - Colossians 2:9), Who was sacraficed to atone God's sins? If our Heavenly Father has a father, grandfather, etc...Who was the very first great, great, great grandfather God to create all things as the Alpha of All? That certainly is the Almightly and all powerful God I want to worship, not just another face in the crowd. If you believe in men/women becoming gods or exaltation to godhood and having their own worlds, Who will you sacrafice to atone the sins on your planets? Doesn't that belittle the eternal & great sacrafice of the Lord Jesus Christ to assume His death/burial/resurrection was just one of many necessary throughout the eions of the eternities? Where in the Bible, Book of Mormon or Doctrine and Covenants does it indicate the existence of a Heavenly Mother?

These questions were actually used by an investigator and I'm not sure that I can top them: * Scripture (from the Bible) was all written by humans under the inspiration of God. Why would God write Scripture on gold tablets to be merely found by a human? There is no precedent for it anywhere in Scripture, save for the giving of the 10 Commandments to Moses. * Jesus came as a Jew to the world. His ministry was first to the Jews, then to the Gentiles, so why would He appear centuries after His death and resurrection on American shores as a White Man to the Native Americans? This would have been the second coming, and would dictate a third coming which is not pointed to anywhere in Scripture. * Why would God go outside His character to give man revelation, then take it away? The Ark of the Covenant was brought up in this answer, but the Ark was not taken back by God directly. Jesus came and was taken away, yes, but He had a very specific mission that He accomplished before leaving. * Jesus came to complete the law, and fulfilled the roles of Prophet, Priest and King. These 3 roles were completed in His person. The gift of prophecy is still active, but the role is not. There is only one King. The priesthood is now shared by all believers. And the role of prophet itself was not filled by one man for the world at a time. There were typically more than one active, so why does the LDS follow only have one prophet, and are you trying to win me to Christ or to this prophet? * Probably my favorite: If my faith would be non-existent if you could show me these gold tablets the Book of Mormon was written on, why are you making the argument that Jesus came to American shores to prove Himself to the people here, and showed Himself to 1st Century Middle East. Where is their faith as a result then, based upon your argument to avoid my question? * Is this type of mission work really effective at all? * And why can I not get a straight, intelligent answer to any of these questions? http://doctorheadly.wordpress.com/2007/09/22/hard-questions-for-the-mormon-church/ And quite a bit longer - but well worth the reading time - is Tony English's Letter to the First Presidency entitled, "Mormonism's Unanswered Questions" Here's the link: http://www.concernedchristians.com/index.php?option=com_fireboard&Itemid=42&func=view&id=77586&catid=10 And I've also embedded Shawn McCraney's video suggestions. Shawn was a former LDS Missionary in Pennsylvania during (I think the 1970's).
